You can do that, I think it's the polite way to go about it. Some people just send a friend request though.

Would you walk up to someone you had never spoken to and just ask to be Their friend? Or would you chat and get to know them first

At least need to have had chatted, preferably met. It looks a bit desperate just sending out randomn friend invites.

There and to the left a bit

I usually struggle with when the right time to suggest "friending" is but generally if we've swapped a few messages and appear to be getting along, I'll suggest it or will send a request and follow up with a message saying I've sent one but they shouldn't feel obliged to accept.

If we just got a friend request out if the blue, we'd possibly just block. It screams of pic collector.

Need to have chatted, if they are really well verified we'd do it nearly straight away, if they were a likely meet. Some people we wouldn't friend until after meeting face-face.

I don't think there's any set way to 'go about it'

Friendship just happens, just might see someone you like the look of, message, get chatting, find you have things in common, similar intrests & a friendship can result, or sometimes the opposite.

On here.. I won't accept friend requests off people I've never chatted with, and established a connection with.

See we tend to use friend requests as a way of showing our interest, we then check out their friends pics and respond with a wink and/or a message if we like what we see. We appreciate not everyone uses them this way but that's how we have always done it.

We'll only accept friend requests from people we've actually met, and like, and get along with, and want to meet again.

That's what friends are, surely?

Just because a few messages have pinged back and forth on the Internet doesn't mean you're friends.

Just because we've held a conversation it won't necessarily lead to a friend invite. A checkout worker may ask 'how's my day gone?', I'm not expecting a lifelong friendship.

That's our take on it anyway. If you want to be our friend, get off your arse and come meet us. Tbf, even then, there's no guarantee.

I only accept friend requests from people I have actually met or plan on meeting soon, I never accept them just from random people.

Not always, but people who just send a random friend request do sometimes get blocked.

To be my friend you either have had to meet me or talk to me on the forums.

I don't have many friends.

If we get requests from people to “Friend” us we usually send a mail asking them why they’ve sent it. 9 out of 10 then don’t reply.

It's easy, I just tell women I'm in love with them. That's when they tell me they only like me as a friend

We only friend people if we've been chatting and think a meet is likely (and of course those we've met) The only reason I can think of for someone we've not chatted to to send a friend request is to access our other pics. If we wanted them seen by just anyone they'd already be public.

I only friend people I've actually met. The only advantage of that is so they don't get 'lost' on here as it's such a clunky and user unfriendly site.
