Hey do people go to social meetings? Im trying set one up in ashford but need know if people go?

Yes, people do and they are (in our experience) very popular.

Don't publish the location though and be sure to make everyone aware that social means exactly that.

Look at the Fabnorth Forum thread. 200 on the social guest list and it has now closed, with people asking to be put on the reserve list.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away & Spain

I attend local Scottish ones & have always enjoyed getting to put faces to usernames, chatting in a relaxed atmosphere without the pressure of any sexual expectations, & made many friends from attending Socials. I take my hat off folk who go to all the trouble of organising them. Well done all.

When we used to attend an organised social the organisers would put a thread in the meets section asking if anyone would be interested and suggesting dates for the first one. Once it was established they put a thread with a set date. People would then message and state an interest. I don't know what went on behind the scenes but I'm sure it took a lot of hard work, organisation and effort, not least of which was finding a suitable location.

don't get food or drink. People can get their own. Find a venue somewhere local, many are just in pubs, decide on a date then put out a thread and message local people...calculate that at least half of the people on yoyr list won't turn up. Be welcoming and fun and leave people to mix and mingle...don't do it as a way to get laid. Be equally welcoming and friendly to all your guests, not just the ones you want to play with...

giving people 2 days notice though is setting yourself up to fail. The Lincoln socials are announced a couple of months in advance. People work and have families and prior commitments especially this time of year

Good socials need plenty of warning for people to arrange hotels, babysitters etc. I notice that you have put one up for 2 days time. That is not giving anybody notice to put arrangements in place. As always don't put locations on the forum but message details out to people. If you are serious about starting socials in your local area you have been given some good advice from people who have organised socials previously. Done properly they could be successful.

The Sussex Socisl was really busy last weekend - i know the organisers put a hige amount of work into finding the right venue and networking. Its not as easy as putting up a date and venue and being swamped with women and couples. They get 100s of enquiries from single guys (most of whom bail out before the night!) and it takes time to build up a base of regular gents, ladies and couples who will attend.

We have organised over 30 socials, they need to be planed and people given time to organise diary's, two days is no time at all,

Knowing the Kent area I would suggest possibly changing to Maidstone, it is fairly central, easy to commute to and there a lot on here from Maidstone. Obviously that does not mean they will attend a social but it is surely a better idea than Ashford. Like others have said, give a good few weeks notice man not 2 days lol

Search the forums for the original Halifax social thread. This was a brand new social started after canvassing locals on here. I'm sure the organisers of many socials would be happy to offer advice and share their experience.

Love a good social! Started an all local ladies kik group so we can get together when we can...first one was only a few that could make it but was a bloody brilliant night!

Sometimes yeah. They're pretty popular..have a go, loads of advice already so take some and run with it, never know, you might start something.

Failing that, just make sure you organize it somewhere you wouldn't mind being on your own just in case.

Worse case scenario, night out yourself

Before Cheryl started the Halifax social she went to ours and at least one other, we gave her advice, yes they are hard work leading up to one, but remember you are the host and it's up to you to make sure all the guest enjoy it, this means talking to everyone during the evening, not just the ones you fancy. Then after it's over then start to verify everyone who attend, again not just your friends, and the verify must be personal to them not a generic glad they came type

You need to hire a room, and a dj or some music, not just meet in an open pub amongst Joe public. Needs to be a weekend, weekdays are not good due to people working next day, some might book hotels,. We always have a raffle and all the ladies get a small goodie bag, the guys get plastic airplanes.

And you don’t need to be too elaborate. Last two I’ve been to have been in pubs that serve food. We took over a big corner and kept everyone guessing how such a wide variety of people knew each other.

I have organised some small scale socials. Find a pub that's got free room hire. Publicise it a month in advance. No DJ or food. Just space to chat and mingle for a couple of hours. I send out the pub address 48 hours before to people invites. Only half the people to plan to come do turn up. Message me for more info.
