For those of you out there suffering anxiety and or depression it can be beaten. Not had an anxiety attack now for 10 months despite a very stressful time of late. Keep on fighting it can be controlled x

I actually really needed to read this right now.

I’m currently suffering from a crippling bout of depression. Real “I don’t see any point in getting up today” stuff, and it’s good to know I’m not alone.

I’ve been lower before now, as low as you can get (I think we all know what I’m referring to), and as much as I don’t want to get there again, I’m afraid if my run of bad luck continues that I’ll start to feel that way again...

I’m glad you’re feeling positive, and I’m a way that makes me feels a little more positive too... a light in the darkness, you know?

Not even on any meds at all. Have massively cut down on alcohol but still have the odd binge drink. It can be tamed this horrible illness

Hull

I went through the same last year whenI suffered at the hands of bullying managers & HOD's at the place of work I had transferred to.

I always thought "I'm a guy,I'll beat this!" but I never did. I ultimately broke down at my GP's surgery one day & was diagnosed with depression & put on meds.

A week later, I was found wandering around the nearest city to my workplace. Members of the Public had rung 999 to report a guy in great distress bawling his eyes out near the River which ean through the town!

I didn't even know I'd made that trip!

I was treated in hospital then via my GP in counselling then I walked out of my job! Best thing that!

It has taken a while with lits if support and I came off my meds in a regulated manner but I'm ok now.

If only more Guys would talk about mental health issues but they don't. To many, being a man means sorting out your own problems but to ask for help is symptomatic to failure!

It's NOT!

I firmly believe people who acknowledge this (I have done several times) are amazingly strong because it takes a lot to do so...

From a personal perspective I don't think I'll ever totally put it behind me - nor totally lose the insecurities that go with it - but I manage it that much better nowadays

Big, virtual hugs and kisses to those who are going thru this or who have gotten through it xxxx

I have had discussions on men's mental health issues many times in recent years with my youngest son, who has anxiety and depression himself. Yes definitely men of all ages should be actively encouraged to talk about how they are feeling and should be listened to properly. Sadly about 4 of my son's friends have taken their own lives, depression is a killer particularly for young males. More should be done to help promote men's mental well being issues and more help needs to be available XXX

How did you beat it?

Well done OP, depression and anxiety is horrible but you're right, it can be beaten, it doesn't have to rule you forever, even though you can't see that when you're sat in the middle of it all.

Your honesty is refreshing - the more we talk about mental issues and they affect us, the more awareness and hopefully, understanding and empathy is created for those who suffer, struggle and also win their battles.

I find drink gave me bouts of feeling shitty so cut it out completely.

As you should due to alcohol being a depressant.

It’s nice to know everyone in this thread is so supportive, it means a lot.

Sadly it hasn’t stopped someone (who I hesitate to name and shame) messaging me something quite nasty and hurtful about my looks via this thread. And I know it’s this thread as they make reference to it.

Report if abusive. Otherwise treat them with the contempt they deserve and ignore them.

Anxiety and depression is everywhere and affects most people throughout their life.

I find blocking negativity from my life really helped

I'm a very empathetic person and negative people around me were draining me of everything I bad.

I made a huge change to my life and started living how I wanted to not how others expected me to and I'm much happier

Taken your advice. Not going to let it spoil the rest of my day now

That's appalling ... you must report and then block whoever has done this to you.

Also realise it is clearly jealousy because you have had the courage to speak up ... for which I applaud you again

I was once a people pleaser - never again as i never felt good enough. Now i just please myself. I still consider others but never to the exclusion of myself.

My depression is under control, however my anxiety is being a bitch. I'm very slowly gaining back some confidence and finally getting out again thanks to a fab friend, bless him. Wish he knew how grateful I am.

Well done OP. It is possible to recover from but it takes work so I commend you for that.

Anyone still struggling look at the 5 ways to wellbeing And, as someone else mentioned, make sure it isn't something like work stress, bad relationship, unhealthy lifestyle, not liking where you live that's triggered it- all of those can be changed & should be changed if they are affecting your mental wellbeing.

Most importantly talk!! You certainly are not alone!

Well that's pretty rubbish and total nonsense anyway as there's nothing wrong whatsoever with your looks! Not that they have the right to be abusive anyway.

Mate, there's nothing wrong with how you look, you're a good looking lad to be honest! Ignore what people say and just report them for being abusive, then hit that block button! I'm pretty certain most people on here would help you out if you were feeling shitty, I'm one of them. As I know what it feels like to feel totally worthless and on the brink of suicide. Things get better eventually, it takes time though.... Never feel alone, as someone out there does care. Take the Samaritans for example, they've helped me no end in the past. Unfortunately there's still a stigma in the work place though, and you do get the odd cretin who says "man up" to you... But karma soon catches up to them lol.
