What's the deal with winks? How are they supposed to be treated? We get winks and when it's from someone we like, we wink back and that's the last of it, we won't hear anything else. What's that about? Are we expected to send the first message?

Oh I get that, but are winks a lazy way of expecting someone to message you or are they just changing their mind?

It is a good conversation starter though!

Me too or i wink to show interest. Im rubbish at ice breaker messages so i wink n hope that gets the ball rolling.

Don't see the point in winking a wink. Just start a conversation if you like the look of them or ignore if you don't. Sending a wink is a way to see if someone likes you enough to reply.

We use them as an ice breaker, if we get a wink from someone we like we message back saying thanks and see how the conversation goes

To us, a wink is like waving a little flag and saying "I like what I see, please look at us".

If we like the winkee, we will generally message, but sometimes we will just wink back and put our balls back in their court.

We tend to wink back and let them message as they made the first move as although it's not been working like that, our winks just get ignored haha we don't get it

Sometimes we do message back - and yet those get ignored too.

Cant remember the last time we actually got a decent convo started on here which led to a meet.

When we receive a wink we will try to message back with thanks for the interest, even it's a thanks but no thanks to meeting. Politeness costs nothing in our book but is worth a great deal.

'Normally' they are from people who can't be bothered doing a message. I'd say most times we've bothered doing a message back it has ended up going nowhere.

But on the odd occasion we a wink and it has turned out ok.

If we are interested in somebody we'll send a proper message.

I prefer a 'wink' than an unwanted message that generally (for me) starts with 'hi' or 'how are you'.

Obviously not read my (admittedly 'War and Peace' Tolstoy length for here) Profile, and ignoring a wink is easier than constantly getting follow up messages asking why I'm not replying.

I either wink back or thank them for the wink in a message if I'm interested.

Some people are nervous to send a message like us but sometimes you just have to send the first message.

If we come across a profile that makes us both go wow we'll message straight away. If a profile provokes more of a 'hmmm, could be interesting' response in us, or one of us is unsure about them, we'll throw a wink at 'em instead. If they wink back we'll message.

By and large it works ok for us.

Been a few times where we've been winked at and we've winked back but then they've not responded. we've done that once iirc when we found out some new info about them which meant they weren't for us.

For me I like to wink to see if I get a response, if I do, then I'm happy to message.

People who say it's lazy I find are the type of people I don't want to meet.

It's not lazy, why spend 10 minutes writing up a ice breaker message outside the normal "hi,how's you?" Just to have it deleted. A wink back takes seconds.

Imagine being out an catching the eye of someone you like, you make eye contact, perhaps throw across a cheeky smile, then you proceed to go chat with that person.

The cheeky smile is the "wink" it shows mutual interest.

If I smiled at someone an they turned away, that's a good indication not to bother trying to start a conversation, or waste your time.

Like I say, I find those who say it's lazy tend to like the attention, so want people to waste time messaging, with a slim chance of a reply, but that shows a power craze of wanting control, without giving much, if anything, back. No thanks

That is so wrong. We aren't power crazed and spend time writing first messages to people.

Using your logic, isn't the winker the power crazed one, expecting a message back just from a wink?

we think of a wink as a 'hello' wave from across a room.....if we like the profile of the winkee we send a brief message - something like -

hi, thanks for the wink, would you like to chat on here so we can find out more about each other? see what interests we have in common?

....often the conversation doesn't go further, sometimes it's the start of the fun! m x

We like the wink system and use it regularly. We wink at someone Normally just to get the person to have a nose at our profile. If they wink back we will send them a message. If we get a reply then its all good. If we dont we move on.

I like to swap winks to at least gauge interest both ways ... then more than happy to send the first message.

It is off putting to spend time reading and composing a message and then not even get a polite no thanks

A couple sent me a wink the other day so I sent a message which got read then couple of days later was deleted with no reply.

I have met the couple several years ago & think she winked & he deleted. Just guessing.If the couple in question see this & I 'm wrong then I appologise.

Some people use winks as an ice breaker,some find them annoying. Personally I like to be winked at.

I'm rubbish at starting a conversation also, but sadly winking does not help me as the ladies or couples I want to chat to simply don't reply

Yeah we have checked... allthough we weren't aware you could wink someone if they had blocked you? Does that mean single guys can wink if we block them?
