Irregular contraception

In your bed

Hi all,

Currently we only soft swap and the hubby has had the snip. We only have the chance to swing 4 or 5 times a year. If we did do full swap we would of course use condoms.

However, we would probably not want to rely on this alone. (slips, breakages).

For 4 or 5 times a year we have no intention of using contraception on a permanent basis. We generally know a week before hand if we have an opportunity to head out for some swinging fun.

Would starting the pill for 7 days before and a few after swinging then discontinuing until we went out again a few months later be silly?

From what we have read alot of the information says contraceptive pills can start to protect you within a few days. So just wondering if this sounds like a reasonable idea or are we missing something critical about starting and stopping?

We will continue to do our own research but thought we'd see if others do this or have any pointers as to why this might be a bad idea.

Cheers

D&B.

I'm not an expert but I would imagine that taking the pill for a few days at a time isn't a reliable method

Ask at the clinic when you next go for testing. But really the chances of condoms failing are miniscule so as you're meeting so infrequently you're probably better off reacting to the event if it happens by taking the morning after pill.

•+• Silicon valley. •+•

if you know for sure that pill will work then this is a feasible idea.

thing is you can get a breakthrough bleed when you first start taking them, this bleed can mean nothing or can mean that pill isn't working so it's risky that way (i found out when i got pregnant on the pill).

maybe only meeting at none fertile times will help?

I would go for the morning after pill if in doubt.

Spermicidal condoms should also help.

Breakages of condoms are pretty rare...

But I wouldn't eff about with the pill.

Only other option is implant / coil.

Speaking as someone who conceived at 46 using condoms I would never advise anyone to trust them alone as a form of contraception, especially if a pregnancy would be "inconvenient"

Cheers,

We've used condoms before and had accidents, but have been lucky.

Read a little more last night and the issue with irregular taking seems to be all about people forgetting, so still risking pregnancy. We would need to take it for five days after due to length of time sperm can last.

Family friends daughter got pregnant at 18 although used condoms, never did go to university.

Could use a femidom as another barrier method as with s burst condom there is the risk of infection not just pregnancy.

Speak to someone at your local family planning clinic if you want to avoid your GP.

As someone who didn't get on with the pill, injections or implants

I would recommend the modern coil, it is fitted and then you forget about it. I still insist on condoms but I know if they break, I am not going to have a little problem down the way.

I think the only criteria is you have had to have a child.

The morning after pill isnt good to take regularly, its a very concentrated use of hormones. Only take if really needed to

This I would recommend it's changed my life (no periods) and given me peace of mind. I also insist on condoms but safe in the knowledge that I have a "backstop" should anything go wrong. Good luck x

They mean play safe, but are worried about pregnancy while playing safe.

We are the same. Mr has had the snip ages back but since starting swinging Bun went on depo injection, we always play safe but won't rely in it, for the same reason as the op.

Morning after pill if an accident occurs woukd be far safer and way more effective than buggering about with the pill like that

No contraception is 100% effective. The morning after pill is 95% effective if taken within 24 hours.

In short like everything there's risk attached. It's up to the individual if they're prepared to take that risk.

Yep and as with all these things the best advice would come from a professional.

Even the coil has side effects and people still get pregnant as well.

Not sure if your doctor would give you the coil as hubby has had the snip.

I used it a little while back with no ill effects

If the OP was to keep a small supply just for emergencies, as it is intended...then I can't see her having any problems

From a legitimate online pharmacy where you have an online consultation with a g.p

When I had it from a local pharmacy a few months back they only provided it as an emergency to take there and then

Don't think they provide them for women to keep "just incase" which imo makes far more sense as the sooner it is taken the more effective it is

It is available from online medical pharmacist/doctors

I'm not sure but I think you might be able to get it from Superdrug medical online

What about a diaphram instead?

Put in before a club, take out a few hrs after sex.

I used one for a long time before i had a coil put in.

Same reason we are only looking to soft swap, Mr had the snip years ago.

Did wonder about finding another couple in the same situation for safe fun without the pregnancy risk, as it's a big turn on for us both for Mrs to impale herself onto another cock but it's hard enough lining up all the balls without adding another parameter.

Yes the missus used to be on depo before I had the snip. It's something we are considering but as we only swing irregularly it seems a bit overkill.

I know what you mean. Although personally I love being on the depo. No periods, no PMT, I think for those reasons alone I'd have it even if we weren't swinging
