Hi all, Just after some advice....

Basically I have had so many problems with any type of contraception that's hormone based so I have been advised by my nurse to try the copper coil.

I've had the mirena one before and it wasn't any good, bleeding 3 weeks out of 4, horrendous period pains and it got dislodged and the strings disappeared so I had to have it taken out in hospital.

So the copper coil.... opinions etc??? The thing i'm concerned about is that my womb is a little twisted and tilted and i'm worried that this one too might dislodge?? Also, could this be more likely to happen if deeper or rougher penetration occurs??

I really don't want to be thinking about what might happen in the heat of the moment and just want something reliable that suits me but thats proving very hard to find

I have the implant and think nothing beats it but it doesn't suit everyone.

No idea about the coil, something about it freaks me out.

A friend has a tilted pelvis and had the coil inserted in hospital,once in she had no problems.

i hv the injection didnt fancy the coil after reading it can cause heavy bleeding.i want something to stop it lol

I have a copper coil after like you not being able to use any form of hormone treatment and i have a tilted womb. I have now had it in for 3 years and have no problems at all couldn't reccomend it highly enough.

I have had a Mirena for the last 10 years and the first two were fine but this one has been a problem, so when it comes out I'll be getting an implant. My daughter has the implant and loves it.

Oh, and my cervix is tilted round the side, which causes problems with the insertion. But no-one has ever said they could feel it when they are inside me.

I've always had the copper coil as i'm not able to take any oral contraceptives. My latest one has been in for 16 months now. I've not had any problems with it, never had it dislodged and not had any discomfort from it.

On the negative side i've found that whilst my periods remained regular (5 days bleeding)they have been much heavier for the first 2/3 days. I also started with period pains for the first in my life

Still, even with the tummy ache once a month, I'm happy with it and even if changing was an option, I doubt i would.

Not tried a copper one but I've used Mirena for around six years now and apparently have a womb that tilts backwards and never had any problems with the coil dislodging or anything.

Gotta say I do love it cos apart from the discomfort and bleeding for a few days when it first goes in, not had a period since - so no breaks in fun!! lol

i hav the mirena coil fitted, and not only do i still hav periods (altho lighter) i also hav breakthru bleeding which cna cause probs with playing, grrrr

I have had both mirena coil and copper one.. had one dislodged, other had to be removed.. I think it depends if you like deep sex.. I physically can not have one due to depth of penetration...

I have the implant but its taken me 9 months and it still has not totally settled.. but is getting better.. I am still having some break through bleeding.

I had a copper 7 coil put in after the birth of my second daughter back in 1984. In 1985 I fell pregnant with it still in place. Maybe things have improved but I wouldn't have trusted it after that.

Had the copper coil fitted over 10 years ago, had no end of hiccups, ended up getting pregnant and miscarrying on it, so not something I'd recommend.

Hi honey, I've had a coil for 5 years, it caused heavier and more painful periods but that was better than the alternative.I also have genetically a very far back and tilted cervix (i.e. gynos always remark on it, I can't reach it myself) I think once it's in, it's just a tiny string coming out so it's safe even if you like it a bit rough. My advice is go to family planning (or whatever your equivalent is) and get someone who inserts them all day every day to do it, rather than your regular doc. Getting mine out next month

Yes my period is a lot heavier, but instead of lasting 7 days as it used to before I had my coil fitted, my period only lasts 3-4 days. As for pain, nothing more than before. They only thing I don't like about it, was that it was really painful when it was put in place, so I'm seriously dreading the day it has to be replaced.

There have been a couple of times Tod has noticed a couple of little cuts on his cock. Nothing deep enough to bleed or hurt. He only noticed while washing & I've seen them first hand & they're nothing to write home about, but if you're with a guy with a really sensitive cock, it may be uncomfortable for him.

I have also found that GPs won't go near coils etc, I had to find a family planning clinic for information, to have it fitted & checked for the first time.

Now the local nurse will check it for me, but initially, family planning clinic only.

My periods have basically stopped since i got the mirena,just a couple of days a month,not everyone bleeds heavily

My GP fitted mine. They have to be trained to fit it so if there are no trained GPs in the practice you are sent to the FP clinic, but if there are there's no problem. Its the same with the implant.

I'm on my second round with the implant, yes it took about six months to toally settle at first, but I can't remember the last time I had a period, maybe one day back in March...best thing I ever did x

I wish mine would settle... Had mine since last novemeber... and still getting break through bleds etc... Had the doctor give me the pill again as well as the implant to try and settle my body again..

We discussed alternative contraception today...my doctor agreed that the fact that I like deep penetration that a coil would be no good for me at all...

I think its a case of trying things and seeing what works best.. Implant is really my only choice.. yet I have had such issues with it... first 2 months I bled all the time.. periods much heavier... break through bleeds.. yet my friend has one and hasnt had a period in over a year.

I had the mirena one fitted for about a month and it came out, but while it was in i lost my sex drive

not a happy bunny...so not sure if i should get it replaced. That happened to anyone else and does it pass??

mmmmmm...yes & no....they were really shallow, I've caused deeper scratches on his back!

& in 3 years this has only happened 2/3 times each time it's been when he fucked me really deeply.

But, yeah it's something you guys really need to take into consideration.

Well I will admit I did have slight bleeds every two weeks to start with, I'm lucky now as I can now go months without, try and perservere, though I know it can be frustrating

I have the Mirena coil and its been brilliant. Had irregular bleeding for the first 10 days and no further problems. Havent had a bleed for over a year.

like the op i can't haver the mirena, mini-pill or implant - they all use the same hormones which don't agree with me. and since a health scare i can't use the trad pill any more. so since i prefer the belt and braces approach i ended up getting a copper coil fitted. originally my gp tried to fit it, but after examining me she told me i have a very long cervix

and its a smaller than usual opening so i needed to go to the family planning and see one of their consultants. i went to family planning ans the nurse i saw derided my gp as inexperienced and told me that she fitted them to teenagers (they are harder to fit) and so it would be a breeze. after rummaging around for some time and causing some not inconsiderable pain she admitted defeat and told me to book with one of their consultants! oh, and the painkiller injection caused and allergic reaction... it finally took two consultants and a nurse, no painkiller and lots of heavy breathing to fit the damn thing!

yes my periods last a couple of days longer but i don't get the breakthrough bleeding i got on the mini-pill and i'm unlikely to bobbitt any guy who says the wrong thing to me...

so give it a go, but definitely make sure its fitted by one of the docs not a nurse cos you don't want to attempt it twice!

but welll I would rather have the odd mood swing than not be able to play due to never knowing when I am on.

i had the psychotic mood swings AND i bled every day...

so the coil was a much better alternative.

i would love to have the option.. but after several failed attempts at having one.. they are just to easily dislodged and cause me personally to many issues..

so its implant and pill to stop the inbetween bleeding lol

I had the copper coil for 3 years,the downside for me was my period would last for 2 weeks.on the plus side i didnt suffer any hormonal problems.

I changed to Cerazette pill but it gave me headaches and sore boobs.

Last thing to try was the mirena,i was nervous about trying it as the doctor said it could be 6 months before it settles down.Had it put in and its been great so far.

I had a mirina coil fitted about 9 years ago as the doctor said that he didnt agree with the snip.

It hurt like feck when it was fitted and I bled soooo heavily for weeks afterwards and eventually the pain got so bad that I could hardly stand up. I went to the doctor who sent me to the hospital. They scanned me and seen that the coil had been put in wrong, it was bent and was rubbing against the wall of my womb. If I had left it much longer it would have perforated my womb.

They took it out there and then, never again!!

A couple of years later hubby got the snip but I was having terrible periods. I went to the doctor about the implant but he said that it sometimes makes the bleeding worse so suggested I had an endometrial ablasion. I had the op last june (they burn away the lining of your womb meaning that it cannot thicken and so you dont get periods). I havent had a problem since.

At 30, you are maybe a little too young for this option but it may be an option for other women who are a little older (I was 37) and have finished breeding.
