Gynaecology Q for the ladies...

So.... I don't have a 'cycle' or periods as my mirena coil kindly stopped it all.

But the last few months I've been having random bleeds during sex. Usually deep hard sex. Lots of bright red blood as if something has been hit inside or aggravated. No pain.

It's putting the brakes on my swinging as it's a random event, probably every 5th-ish time. After the bleed there is nothing more ongoing.

V annoying. Any one else had such symptoms?

Thx

Any bleeding during sex you should go to the doctors as it's a standard question theybask when doing health checks for my repeat prescription for my pill

I've had this, only just after last weekend. Also had a bout of cystitis. I'm due a smear test and I plan on asking about the bleeding while at the nurse.

Hopefully my coil is still in place.

Agreed. You need an examination and investigations. Could just be a cervical polyp or erosion but more serious causes need excluding. See your gp in next 48 hours. Hope it all goes well x

Anytime you have bleeding during sex it is advised to get it checked out.

Better safe than sorry.

My housemate has a coil and she's had it checked a few times now because she has spotting too. She's always been fine and tested for everything, it's probably nothing to worry about but get to the drs to put your mind at rest xx

I can't help with the symptoms but I am jealous that your periods stopped altogether. Had my mirena in for a few years now but still as regular as clockwork

I'd go see your gp or sexual health clinic. It can be a sign of many things including various lady cancers.

I had a hysterectomy last year partly down to bleeds like this when I was on Cerazette pill which successfully stopped my periods for about 10 years previously.....

Please get yourself checked x

no it's not common, that's why any bleeding should be checked out at a doctor.

my ex was big, too big for condoms, so i had a mirena fitted and had no problem with bleeding.

I had the mirena fitted in February last year. I had weeks of constant bleeding to start with and then a couple of months of spotting.

Unfortunately I still have periods but they are regular as clockwork and much lighter. I haven't had any spotting for about a year and no bleeding after sex.

Any unusual bleeding needs to be checked out.

Bleeding in first six months with mirena is common. Due to oestrogen deficiency and hence some people need pill as well during this stage.

I had this a few times, random bleeding but no pain - it turned out to be a benign polyp. You do need to be careful with 'deep hard sex' though, because I managed to inadvertently rip away half the damn thing (while waiting for a gynae appointment) which resulted in even more annoying bleeding which went on for about 3 weeks. When the remainder of it was properly removed by the doctor, I then bled again for another 10 days or so.

But obviously you need to be checked because there are all sorts of reasons for unexpected bleeding.

I had this when I had a mirena although not always after se .I went to the doctor straight away, was referred for a hysteroscopy at which time they replaced my coil. It was nothing, the gynaecoloist said it was probably a couple of random periods.

Don't wait any longer to get it checked out though.

Just been through all this drama with Mirena and the same symptoms. GP takes random bleeding mid-cycle or after sex VERY seriously do you should find yourself referred very quickly if they have any concerns at all. Do keep a diary of your bleeding and sexual activity as well to help with diagnosis. Many possibilities, including cervical erosion, but they need to rule out more serious ones.

I was fast tracked thru the system when I had the same problem early this year, the only thing they found was a cervical polyp which was removed during a procedure, had no problems since, good luck with your appointment xx

Just to update you lovely people who answered me. I was referred to a gynaecologist quickly. She had a quick look and saw 4 tiny blood vessels that may have kept being agitated. So she cauterised them there and then. Didn't hurt and was done in 20mins!! Hopefully fixed but time will tell xx
