Where does the law stand

Not sure if this has been asked before , but I'm just wondering where I stand within the law when i post explicit pictures online , whether it's here on fabs or other adult sites , pressumably if i did this in public I'd be arrested for indecent exposure , does anyone know the law , the sites i use are for adults only ( obviously hard to tell who's looking at them ) , am i breaking the law , any info would be helpful , XXX

There are some no go areas, even in porn, but public nudity isn't an offence unless you are aiming to cause distress ( not sure of the actual wording) . If you are posting on an adult website and people choose to look they can hardly claim that they were distressed by the images.

It's a massive subject so there's no universally correct answer to a question like this. In general, though, an adult is ulikely to be breaking English law if all they are doing is posting explicit pics of themselves, and only themselves, on sites that are clearly adult-themed sex sites (such as Fab, Xhamster, etc). It gets very murky if the sites are less obviously adult sex themed, and even murkier if there are others in the photos. By the way, always read the Terms and Conditions for the websites you use, to see what they have to say about the content you upload.

Generally speaking, within UK law indecent exposure is exposure with the intent to cause shock or alarm to non consenting persons. For example flashing or being nude in public.

Posting nude pictures on adult websites such as fab does not breach the law as by opening an account the users of the site give consent to being potentially exposed to strong adult content and as such cannot then claim to be shocked or alarmed by what they were to witness unless such content were to fall outside of Lawfulness.

The two most relevant laws are The Sexual Offences act 2003 and the Public Order Act 1986,google them and you will be reassured that you're safe posting pics online in this sort of context.

Technically it's ALL illegal as it's an offence to distribute indecent images. Indecent being anything that may come under the category of causing distress through images inappropriate to public viewing.

However, since the adult "entertainment" business generates tens of millions of revenue a year the legal loopholes have been expanded vastly over the years and legalities now lie under any images or recordings that are consensual to both distributors and viewers under adult age. (Hence 18+) is fit for viewing UNLESS it fails to comply with European law (Animals, kids, etc...)

Moderators within the websites are legally bound to report and expose uploads to the legal powers for prosecution if they fail to comply with the EU laws but are bound by law to ensure that any images uploaded within the law are safe and complient within uploaded right.

Doesn't always work that way though and downloads do happen..... VERY OFTEN

Especially if the British Board of Film Censors get to control all UK internet content.

No we won't. EU law is being transferred into UK law. "

Only as a mechanism to speedy remove them (the one the government of the day dont like) from the statue book, with minimum of scrutiny by Parliament and law lords.

Is is not an offence to post pictures of yourself provided they do not contravene the Obscene Publications Act 1964.

It is an offensive to post pictures of another (even in the background) if it is an intention to cause Harassment, B**ckmail or if they were taken without that person knowing (voyeurism) under the The Malicious Communications Act 1988

You still get readers wives in some shops, I remember as teenager finding a stash of my foster dads 1960 to 1970 adult literature, Britain is modern not Victorian any more.
