Somewhere over the Rainbow

I've noticed that a lot of guys who message me have old photos on their profile. We are talking 5 yrs and older and that can make such a difference I chatted with guys, face pics were okay. Took it onto Kik and then I've seen a recent face pic. They looked nothing like their profile ones, in fact I still wonder if they are actually of the same people. Okay to some of you that may sound shallow but I need a connection to get intimidate with a guy.

Does anyone else get frustrated by this?

FaceTime and Skype are your friends.... I avoid people that refuse to do this before a meet

The issue regarding people using old photographs is not limited to just men. I have been swinging for 30 + years and have observed both men & women using old photographs for obvious reasons. They have got older, put on weight etc. I don’t agree with it, but I understand it. Society has not changed as much as we think… in other words, sexy is displayed as ‘young and fit. How many people have age caps (blocks) on their profiles? I have met so many people in clubs who want to play with me, then ask me why I have not contacted them on Fab. When I tell them my age they are shocked. They then realise that having an age cap (or block) can be divisive!

I'm shocked - you're not old! I like guys to see me as I am - that way there are no shocks, they take me as they find me. There are the odd few who are actually better than their pics like a chap I met today. Maybe these people think they're more likely to get a meet if they keep their old photos

Ouch !

I know we need to update our pics, but it hasn't happened because life gets in the way and there has been no time nor energy spare for that exercise.

In any case we are not meeting atm . . .

I recently had a meet with a couple, and one of the attractions on their profile was their one picture. She was a stunning brunette with an hourglass figure and lovely pert boobs. Her husband was gym fit and a nice looking bulge in his pants.

When they arrived as planned at my place I had to look twice to make sure they were the same couple. Her figure was more beer glass shaped and boobs appeared saggier under her top. He had gone from gym fit 6 pack to 5 gallon belly.

I asked when their profile picture was taken - they said 10 years ago!!!! They didn't want an updated pic on there as it might put folks off asking for a meet.

I told them not to be daft as folks want to see the real deal rather than get a shock like I did.

Anyway, we had a great time and were well satisfied at the end of our time together. As they left they said they'd be putting a more up to date picture up. I've seen that pic and so far it's had over 200 fabs in just 2 weeks.

I like to be honest with people. I'm not going to sugar coat my size or shape. I like people to know what they're getting so there's no awkwardness or thinking they've been duped. I think it's only fair if the other person returns the courtesy.

I have had this, met a guy and thought "really" not because he was awful but, his photos were 10yrs old. He looked much older and I never went any further. Our photos are up to date, I always tell people I am over 50 and far from slim

Yeah, its annoying. I may be picky, but I also get a bit annoyed when people have pics without facial hair and then turn out to have a full beard, or if a guy has nice scruffy hair on his head in his pic and when you meet him he's shaved it all off. It can be awkward when people don't look how you think they will.

I think some people think "oh I haven't changed THAT much". We all see ourselves every day in the mirror and don't see the changes happen. We all get older, and our pics should reflect that. On that note - our pics are 18 months old and we've set aside time next week to update them!

I know there are people we met over 10 years ago who are still using the same pics on here now.

Old pics are without doubt a turn off. However we accept that people do forget how long they have had pics here.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

"I think some people think "oh I haven't changed THAT much". We all see ourselves every day in the mirror and don't see the changes happen."

I've changed my public pics to two comparable ones years apart.

Do you think the old one is Unrepresentative?

I don't think the average person changes in 2 years but they probably would 5 years +.

Would also depend on their current age too, 20-25 would reflect differently to a 50-55 year old.

We have met quite a few who looked totally different and some we said no to , on the other hand there was a few wife wasn't sure about , but once we met they turned out to have a great personality, even some we meet in club I wouldn't think the wife would go for but had great meets and have Been back for seconds

To be honest, it has never occurred to me that I should remove old photos. I use a reasonably recent face pic, or two, to message out. To be honest, I haven't changed much in the last 5 years. Slightly slimmer and fitter, I suppose.

Yes! It's really annoying because people can change a lot over time. We'd rather find out before a meet though. I imagine it makes it difficult to recognise someone if their photo is really old.

We put the EXIF date on ours so people know how recent they are!
