FabSwingers.com forum: How to set up a social

Hi folks. Looking for advice and pit falls for setting up a social in the Highlands.

Was speaking to a fellow fabber who's idea it was so i said i would help out.

Anyway, we reckon starting small is best and also factoring in a 50% no show of people, couple that with the fact that everyone knows everyone up here its going to be hard to pull off.

So aside those things how is best to go about it. Do we hire somewhere? A pub? Community hall or night club? Or just arrange to meet knowing numbers will be small initially. Should we tell the proprietors who we are or is that infringing on discretion too much?

Any advice would be welcome.

Go for a decent sized pub, make sure everyone knows that its a public place lol Try and get some people you know onboard before you start and then go find a big bucket of luck...

I wouldn't hire anywhere, as that would incur a cost. Keep it to a large pub (don't need to tell them you are swingers then) and don't publish the venue on the forum (pm people nearer the time and swear them to secrecy.(. Keep it simple and build on it from there. Good luck xx

I arrange a mini social in a pub in Paisley and we do the pub quiz. We now have about 12 that come along and there's new faces every week.

Read my verifications. I put it in my status and put it up as an event. Started off with just 6 of us. It gives an excuse to meet up and something to chat about. It's less daunting than a big social.

Thats a good idea, knowing inverness it'll be a small affair to start off with.

Use a largish pub and don't tell the pub.

Keep the venue 'secret' till a couple of days beforehand.

Work on a 75% no-show rate, particularly if it's the first social you're organising.

Assign someone to be the contact on the night for those who turn up and don't know where you are. Either Fab profile or Kik.

Take something with you that will identify your table. Something innocent looking. I used to take a box of Haribo sweets. It's easy to spot and sharing sweets can get people chatting.

Anyone who asks to come along and then asks about how naughty it will get will be a no-show.

Agree with above. Don't reveal venue too early.

Make it clear that it is a social and playing will not be tolerated.

I find a pub that has a function room you can hire for free. I said it was people who chat on the Internet, but are meeting face to face for the first time.

As others have said, expect at least half the people who said they will come, to not show up.

Have a couple of people you know there to help mingle amongst the folk you don't know.

Don't worry if only a small number turn up, it will go from strength to strength.

Keep the venue vague until 48 hours before the event and then you can message people details who have said they were coming. That gives you a reasonable idea how many will attend .

Is this low percentage due to the fact you only been here 3 weeks?

You forgot to factor in the sniffles, headaches and the death of the sons goldfish to that percentage

Nothing to do with the length of time they've been here.

The site id full of dreamers who will ask for an invite and never have the balls to show up.

We have organised over twenty socials, and the most no shows has been 25%. We limit it ti single men who have been members for over 3 months and unverified people especial couple must talk to us on the phone

Totally agree with you, that's what I was trying to get at that the OP hadn't been here long enough to realise about the dreamers/timewasters and his percentage was to low.

I wasn't trying to say that he would be unable to set up the social due to his length of fab 'service'

I do socials with a core group of people and we all invite people along to the group.

My 1st social was in a pub with some fellow formites. It's now evolved and changed into something I'm quite happy about

and I've made some great friends through it, even doing non swinger things.

It takes a lot of effort to do in the sense of invites, "promoting" the social, building a guestlist, etc. I'll invite 100 something people who say they're interested and want to come and usually only 40ish people actually turn up.

But all worth it in the end

I have 10-12 regularly now at the quiz each week. Regulars and new faces.

We verify new people and even took a pic to update someone's profile. A few are going to the Christmas social now that they know a few people.
