if someone has an STD then you might catch it by giving them oral, or receiving it.

you can't really rely on statistics. they are just guesstimates based on info they have to hand.

Its very hard for them to have statistics that give a true picture on oral transmission

There are risks but considerably less than unprotected penetrative sex.. I wont use protection for oral and just have regular checks

I am always a tad suprised to find questions like this on a site such as this.

My answer for what it's worth is,low risk..tho get the worried well started and .....

it can become silly!

At the end of the day life is risk!!

You might walk down the road and get hit on the head by a lump of frozen piss from a leaking sewage tank on a jumbo jet.

Life is about the journey not about getting there!!

go on the THT website, and you'll find the most current statistics as well as advice.

It's apparently low, but just protect your self by getting regular checks at the GUM clinic or if your that worried use a dental dam/condom

Don't give oral sex to anyone if you have bleeding gums or any sores in your mouth or on your tongue.

Oral is much lower risk than penetrative sex, but there is a risk....and it is greater if you have any of the above issues.

The answer is very low if you look at the number of oral STI infections vs the estimated amount of oral sexual that goes on in the UK!

As stated the risks of driving or eating red meat are statistically far more likely to kill you than unprotected oral sex

That's why most, but by no means all, on here do oral without protection - they understand there's a risk but it's very small in comparison to most risks and they choose to accept it

Swinging of course, carries risk as sex always has across the history of mankind - you either take that on board and carry on or you do the only true safe sex which is to delete your profile and stop swinging

kissing is almost the same risk with the above..

A sense of proportion is yr starting point. .j

I'm not sure that kissing carries the same risk as giving oral sex. Since many of the bugs don't live well in the mouth, unless both parties have open sores or bleeding gums. A healthy mouth is quite an inhospitable place for most bacteria and viruses.

That is part of the reason why oral is less of a risk than penetration with an unprotected penis.

There are a lot of factors. Firstly one (or more) of the participants must have a disease in order for another to catch it. Secondly the disease must be transmitted by some vector from one to the other. It's less likely via oral-genital contact because the infective agent has a fair chance of being killed before it reaches somewhere in your body that it can infect you....unless you have oral health issues.
