I'll make the assumption that you don't want to spend a riduculous ammount so keep my recommendations to more modest priced toys.

Given that your considering something for either solo use or under the control of a partner I would suggest the Luxury Curved Stainless Steel Dildo being sold by Bondara. It appears to be a very close copy of the Njoy wand which I have and enjoy regularly but less that half the price. I'm not sure if they have it at the moment but Lovehoney have also done a similar shaped glass toy around the same price in the past.

What is "best" depends on what you are into, and what sensation you are hoping to feel. Also every arse is different...some stretch open easily while others do not.

So you might find starting with a prostate stimulator as described by some earlier posts, works for you. You might also try a thin vibe, perhaps only the width of a thick finger.

Or if you think you might like something bigger and want to feel stretched/full, you could try a larger dildo/vibe or butt plug or even an inflating dildo.
