That is true,it's why doctors perform rectal exams in that position.

The anal sphincters are muscles and have to be treated as such. You wouldn't try to do the splits without training your legs would you. Although the anal sphincter works differently you still need to work on it. Use your finger with plenty of lube and have a root around,clench and release as you push it in and out. Gradually use more fingers and spread them out. Before inserting anything more rigid and solid inside you you have to have an idea of what to expect.
