"Maybe try evening primrose oil capsules to reduce hot flushes. Best check with doc or pharmacy first if you are taking any prescription drugs as this can counteract some. Hope this helps, hot flushes are a nightmare." Do they actually work though?

"Ladies; can you offer any effective advice to reducing hot flushes? The doctors have taken blood tests but said they won't intervene for two years. " Have a look at the first episode of Doctor in The House, it was on BBC 1 I think. The woman on that had hot flushes which were considerably reduced through diet and exercise.

"wtf is going on with menopause though? i'm not looking forward to mine at all, whenever that's gonna be." It doesn't have to be bad. I've had hardly any symptoms apart from the ones you're supposed to get i.e. periods stopping. I know I've been very lucky but don't dread it until you know how it's going to affect you, it might not be as bad as you think. The good news is that frequent sex is medically advised

Well thanks suppose it might not be that bad just it does sound terrible, from people offline as well as in here. All this sweating and flushing.

Yes, my gp told me that women should ideally have sex daily, it keeps the blood flow good to your genitals and helps ward off vaginal atrophy (I know who'd be a woman eh!?). Bad menopause gets more publicity, there's no point telling people "I'm 59 and not sweating or flushing" they wouldn't be interested

My vaginas already shrunk but it lubes up ok, not sure if i'm in the peri-menopause or not. I've no other symptoms yet if i have, plus on my period right now - will be glad to get rid of these.

"I had absolutly no idea trans women went through the menaupause" Lol. I'm not asking for me! We've read lots of stuff on ways to possibly ease the symptoms but I wanted to know from real women what actually works for them.

"I've been going through it for a year, apart from now getting period spotting that I didn't have before and things like my skin changing I'm sailing through it, but I have a mirena coil with hormone replacement in it. My mum didn't even know she had had hers, her periods just stopped when she was 40 and that was it. Just a side note though. Do you definetly k ow its the menopause. I had terrible symptoms a few years ago, horrendous hot flushes and night sweats where so bad, plus I gained so much weight. Turned out it was a hormone problem and once I got on the right medication it was sorted." Blood tests have been taken and results are awaited. Xx

"It's really interfering with our nighttime spooning too. Making us both sad as we're limpets all night " Night times can be the worse. As sleep becomes restless and who wants to spoon a boiling furness hahaha I've been in my first menopause for 7 months now, the first 6 months weren't so nice. I got so hot at times it was like having sun stroke I've been taking cod liver oil and evening primrose , for the same amount of time and it's settled some what. The chills can be worse than the hot flushes....it's literally like a switch and you can feel your whole body flair up and go I've just started to take HRT this month...so this should be interesting And, I have it all to come again, as I'm in a pre induced menopause. I have a 3 monthly injection that halts it all, to stop my alien fibroids taking over. They've shrunken with amazing effect so far, so I can ride it out like a hormonal trooper ....plus now my top lip doesn't break out in a sweat no more, its become less of a pain in the ass. I did read when I read a few forums and sites, in one MEDICAl section about what to do whilst in work and you 'breakout' If you start to cry in work, just take yourself off, somewhere quiet. As people don't need to see that. .... Hahah ermmm like I want to cry if my pencil snaps or a leaf floats to the ground and a car squished it.!!! ...Ride out those tropical moments.

"They do for some people, my mum & a few friends swore by them over the years. I had a hysterectomy at 27 & been getting hot flushes for the last year but cant try evening primrose due to my prescription drugs. They are not expensive so possibly worth a try without spending a fortune." Did you go on HRT?

"Vitamin E along with black cohosh with sage and evening primrose does do wonders for menopause not sure if you girls can buy black cohosh In the UK or not as it's been taken off the market herein ireland but it does do wonders for the hot flushes and night sweats that plagues all of us it's important to reduce caffeine intake and In crease your milk in take as well to help maintain strong bones as well " Not all of us are symptomatic! I'm 55 and peri-menopausal with hardly any symptoms. Increasing calcium intake is actually a myth. Countries with the highest dairy consumption have the highest rate of osteoporosis. Magnesium and weight bearing exercise is far better protection as is vitamin D3 supplementation..

"I had absolutly no idea trans women went through the menaupause" We don't, but taking HRT is like a cross between menopause and puberty. I had really bad night sweats but they didnt last long. I cant remember how long now. I think it was only weeks? I have been having a lot of night sweats again, and moodiness, and uber tiredness. And forgetfulness. Maybe it is hormonal...Anyways. Hope it passes for you soon. x

I have taken high doses for many years.

"I saw a programme a couple of years ago called The Food Hospital. In one episode there was a woman who suffered badly with hot flushes. She was taking statins so couldn't have HRT. They put her on a natural high oestrogen diet and in a few weeks the hot flushes had almost completely stopped." I'm wondering why she can't take both ? Although obviously it's a good outcome for her anyway

Nasty side effects too.
