At the stage of looking into this, has anyone had it done? Know very little about it but have finally been referred by my gp although a family member has also offered to loan me the money to get it done privately. Any advice would be great!

Think you need to research in depth ... before you do this ... make a list of pros and cons as im sure there are people who have had this done and have suffered pain and distress... and regretted their decision .... after all its a major operation ...good luck OP

I'm currently awaiting final consultations to have breast removal done. Breast reductions are pretty serious surgery that do leave quite extensive surgery and you should make sure you understand the worst possible outcomes before going under the knife.

I am seriously considering it at the moment but just don't want to regret it. A friend of mine had hers done and something went wrong (I can't remember what) but she ended up with a hole in one of her breasts and they looked a real mess for a long time, which is what is sort of putting me off.

Personally I'm against all surgery, be happy with what you have.

Before you know it you will be like, take some off here, put a lil bit there and you look like 1 of them plastic people.

For some of us we can't just be happy with what we have - as much as we would love to me.

Your advice is like saying to a person who is clinically depressed 'just cheer up!'

Well no, it's not.

Many people have serious mental health issues relating to body image. If someone is having surgery to change their body outwardly, then they may well fall into that category.

For me it's partly medical reasons. Ive been a 36hh since I was 13 years old. I've lived 30 years with them this size. It's not just about wanting to wear nice underwear I have suffered back pain for 30 years. I'm currently laid up again. I have half inch deep grooves at the top of each shoulder and constant cuts around my back. This is not due to poorly fitted bras either. My bras cost around £45 each time and last a few months before wires push through and start to dig into my body. Im in pain when I take my bra off at the end of the day. They hurt and are sore.

A family member has offered to pay for my surgery many times during my life and I've declined every time because I'm scared of the huge operation that it is.

To me why bother if I can live with it but it's getting to the stage where I can't live with it anymore. My work and home life are seriously affected by the back pain that it brings. I'm fed up of being in pain.

Sorry to hear of your daily struggle with your boobies Neff.. I had mine done for completely different reasons. Try and get as many different opinions and experiences as you can from ladies who've had it done coz some stories will make you think no and some will make you think yes. Only you can decide and it's a big decision. I still suffer 14 years on with circulation problems.. it's a risk amongst all the others that you have to weigh up if it will be worth it for you. I wish you all the best. X

My mum had hers done nearly 25 years ago for same reasons as you. She could hardly walk from the pain. Shes a dd cup now and still happy with them although the procedure has changed for better since hers. My cousin is having hers donenext year becaise she has one that is a b cup and ome that is a d cup. Just research the surgeon lots. Pm me if you want to ask about the surgery my mum had. She went to a man vased in harley street but had syrgery in essex as it was easier for us woth family there. Shes also had other stuff done with him for medical purposes x

I totally understand where you are coming from, the primary care trust that I come under will not consider at all. I find them most distressing.im sure I don't have to go into that with.i hope they do a fab job xx

I would love to have this done for the same reasons but unfortunately can't afford it privately and my local primary care trust won't help either. Bras cost a small fortune!!

A few friends have had it done. All of them because of mid thoracic back ache and they are all very happy with the results. You do have a scar, but significantly less back ache. It's a major op though, so not a decision to be taken lightly.
