I always read the profile before I reply to a message. Check if they are verified and pref are photo verified. I don't mind if face pics aren't on show as I don't have any but be willing to swap numbers and photos privately. The message they send tells a lot too, 'fancy a shag' or boring 'hi' just don't cut it. I'm not expecting an essay but a simple 'read your profile I think we have similar interests' would suffice. X
