How do you spot a fake?!

With seemingly endless threads on fake profiles/ fake kik accounts, thought I would create a thread to help us ween out a few fakes. Whilst we can't name and shame, I think it's important people know what to look out for and what sends the alarm bells ringing. Below is a little start list which I guess people can add too.

No verifications

Not photo verified

No pictures

Photos not the same

Obviously these are not a cert in confirming who you are speaking too is not real. Just help you in bring aware! Not really sure of fakes intentions, but it's horrible to think they are ruining things for the rest if us and wasting a lot of people's time. Let's help one another stop getting caught out!

Happy fabbing.

There...

Being photo verified doesn't mean much to me to be honest. I'm not photo verified - never got round to it! I'm much more likely to meet site supporters than those who aren't but it's not an absolute rule. I'll even meet new unverified folk.

My perception is that there are more fake couple and single female profiles than single male profiles but I may be wrong.

I've had my suspicions raised by profiles - some have proved correct and others I was wrong about - can't beat a good gut instinct in my case!

Think your right. Especially with couple and single female profiles being the biggest fakes. Wonder if it's just troublemakers or wether there is a sexual kick got off it? Fake profiles that is.

I've found a few times when chatting to people, if they reply to chat with a just a few words or even one word reply, that they make me suspicious. Be it they are fake / time wasters..

Maybe they answer in chat with one word or short sentence, as they checked the other sides' profile and didn't find a match... We get loads of unwanted pm's in chat from guys living 100's of miles away and also who don't read a profile...So answer with hi and bye...Does that make us time wasters???

Disagree with your list OP sorry. Those may be true sometimes but definitely not always.

When they only come online for short periods at night /looking for outdoor or car fun only / or want to meet now / or if you look at their furniture or decor in their pictures you can get a good impression whether they are sadly fake or more than likely in a relationship or just desperate

When we have used kik we've asked for a pic with the person holding a piece of paper with our profile name on it. Needless to say a fake can't provide and quickly disappears.

No not at all. What I mean is people engaging in chat, exchanging quite a few messages. Total respect to one word reply if saying along the lines of no not interested.

Im sure you are not time wasters.

Happy fabbing.I don't think anyone with common sense has to worry too much about fake profiles . As with most things in life you have to make a judgement call.

If you want to be on the safe side , just assume that any profile of less than fifteen lines is fake . You all need to take into account the content of the profile and how it is presented .

I never bother looking at verifications . Why would it be of any interest whom others have meet . I much prefer discretion as to people listing whom they have meet .

I agree with this, especially if you have sent some depth in your message to them. Almost that over typing will give them away!

If you read the whole post, I do make it clear they are not a definite indicator. The whole post is just attempting to highlight some of the key areas people could watch out for.

I find the fake men to be very enthusiastic and flattering towards me. They have a few pics taken from a blog somewhere and try to coerce into sexual chat.

Think this just about answers it in one.

Photo verified means nothing if other things are in place. Veris from cam mean nothing except that there was a person in the other end.

To us, plenty of pics and a good number of veris from meeting makes us feel comfortable. Once we're coming to meet an exchange of numbers for final confirmation.

In our experience, breaking from the above has almost always ended in disappointment.

If someone has all the assets but no veris, smell a rat. If they're new and have loads of face pics on show, smell a rat. Not always correct but gut instinct goes along way.

If someone seems too good to be true, they probably are.

I rarely take notice of a male being photo verified. It's not unheard of them to post a private photo of themselves to gain the verification and then post fake ones on their public profile.. *sigh* the lengths that some people go to.

For me.. Warning bells ring with people using Kik.. Married or attached.

Guys who have been on the site a while with no veris..

And generally, if something looks to good to be true.. It normally is.

We must be fake then - just over a line on ours.

I know they say size is important but I think that applies to knob size, not profile text.

If you tell people how to spot fakes, then the fakes will take steps to avoid doing what you have told everyone is a way to spot them, thus making the job of spotting fakes much harder

I had one yesterday confess that his profile was fake. It was a couple where the female half was much younger and I declined for that reason.

He then confessed that he had been on his own for a year but kept the profile because he liked it when guys on here messaged who they thought was the female talking dirty when it was really a guy in his 40's getting his rocks off.....needless to say I reported him!

We had one last night who despite protestations of being 100% genuine claimed to be 24 years old, claimed to have once been in the special forces but then went on to admit he was 39 but thought if he lied about being younger he may get a meet...like that wouldn't have been noticeable....oh...but apparently he really was in the special forces....yeah right!

not sure why Kik always gets a beating on here - I like to use it once I've established a connection - easier to quickly exchange messages, saves giving out your mobile number (which has caused problems in the past) etc.

Fakes are usually obvious - single word answers, desire to get your email address, place names mispelt, using different names, etc.

sometimes people have been registered on the site and haven't used it in a long time, so may not be verified

I haven't even pic verified this profile, doesn't mean I'm fake

some people choose not to have pics on fab

my photos vary being here 3yrs, my hair colour changes, style changes, got more wobbly bits, I look different at times

so I have no cause to think someome maybe fake till they say they are going to a club I'm at and no show, even that I've been proved wrong as they showed up the next time

I've hosted a few parties at clubs and I do like to give people a chance, I have verified people that I thought oh they are fake, sometimes my gut feeling can be wrong

(I don't meet private so it's easier for me )

Think we've been on Fab over three yeras now. There have been thousands of 'how to spot a fake!' threads in that time, all giving good advice. And yet, lots of the fakes keep doing the same easy to spot things!

If we are going to discuss it, the risk that you make it easier for people to be fake and convincing is always there...but it doesn't matter that much really.

As has been said above, you can't beat instinct. Appraising a profile and communication with the cool head of logic rather than the hot head of lust is always helpful here!

I think your right about this. We have had a few fakes who are couples and single ladies. It is gut instinct and normally after a few messages you can tell. That's our experience

I am here for a few years. I find its gut feeling. When I was with a lady friend we had couples who did not turn up too. It's easy sort out who is marrie or in a relationship. They disappear at the weekends. Fakes ruin it for everyone else.

Ones that send immediately want to move to kik or telegram

Couples that are all of the above but only the man chatting / available
