Untill an accident a few months ago I had good teeth but I lost one and now about to loose as second tooth and they are visible. I don't want a partial denture at just 41 and am considering implants. Hugely expensive in the UK. Cheaper abroad. Would like some advice please if you have had experience of this

Will be keeping an eye on this thread as I lost a canine after slipping in the shower a few years ago and it's really getting me down - haven't smiled properly in years.

Sometimes deals come up on Groupon but I don't have £1000 spare to really do it right now.

I had mine done (accident, lost two) at cost a few years back in the UK. I doubt I could have afforded it if I'd paid full price, or been comfortable relying on credit for it but with hindsight and knowing how much better it makes me feel I'd go back and tell myself to do it regardless of the 2 grand or so it would have cost if I hadn't been so lucky with my dentist.

Thailand and Goa are geared up for dental tourism, closer to home is Poland many Polish dentist's work here now also Hungary has a good reputation both are easy to access without the prolonged travel.

I literally have nightmares about losing my teeth, so I'll watch this thread.

It depends how much the bone has shrunk.

Extractions need to.heal before they start.

I had a tooth out that went wrong after crowning, but the bone didn't grow enough. Luckily its out of sight. I dont fancy a bone graft and implant...

I, D, had two a couple of years back. It is a two step process. Firstly the fitting of the bases in to your jaw and then when they are properly grafted in, month to six weeks, having a crown fitted.

It cost me a hefty sum but meant that I didn't lose more teeth etc.

Would I have it done in a foreign country where I would struggle to ascertain the quality of care and materials, no.

I (Harry) went over to cancun to have an implant in 2008.. Best dentist I had ever had and completed the process within the 2 weeks... Within an hour of walking away after the main operation day I never felt any pain and was scuba diving within 3 days...

Unfortunately I need another as my root has broken, so been looking at going over to Poland... I would go back to Mexico but didn't enjoy Cancun, shame...

I'm sure Poland will be as good, what can go wrong pmsl....

Well some good advice here. Don't like the costs of the UK but aftercare has to be factored in.

As the previous post said . You have to factor in the aftercare. Implants take a few months to integrate and you may need a few review appointments then the impression appointment then the crown fit, not to mention taking the shade by a decent laboratory. There are lots of good dentists in the UK that offer payment plans and continuing care. Be wary of practices that advertise treatment thats in 1 appointment .

My monicker is a give away. Don't work in private sector but seen the real disasters of having work done abroad. don't do it.

I had loads of work done in Poland about 5 years ago from extractions to root canal to crowns. I've looked at having implants done there but factoring in the costs of travel and accommodation have made it touch and go. I've found a dental implants place in Brighton ( Google that and you'll find them) that come in pretty reasonable compared with others.

I lost a couple at top front. Root extractions have healed and currently trying to decide between implants @ £5-6k with the 2 step process and weeks of discomfort, or bridge @£3k - having to sacrifice 3 good adjacent teeth, to provide crowns to support the bridge.

Regardless of the cost, not an easy decision. Wouldn't consider going abroad for it though.

Google a company called "Perfect Profiles". Apparently they do single implants from £680 (I would recommend doing some serious research on reviews though!) and have branches in Luton and Wolverhampton. x

A friend of mine had 4 front teeth implants, all done for free. We have a dental teaching hospital here and the dental students undertake this kind of work as part of their training.

Worth looking into for your area

Budapest is one of the best places for high quality dentistry and a fraction of the cost of the uk. Great city while you are there as well.

I had my first appointment today. Will have a front bridge implanted using 4 implants. Will cost just over 6 grand all in so. It too unreasonable when including everything Probably will start the treatments in January whilst I get some crowns done my my regular dentist. Looking forward to having my nashers fully sorted fairly soon

I (mr) was going to go to Poland but looking a bit too expensive.. Did this dentist recommend having bone augmentation and what make of implants are they going to use?? I'm assuming that it includes the porcelain crowns too?? I had a straumann last time in Mexico and still going strong...
