Sometimes I wonder whether I just have a healthy high sex drive or an actual addiction to sex, whats the difference and does it matter?? Xx

Id say an addiction to sex would be like any addiction

When you pack up work in order to fit more sex in I'd say you have a problem

Is your behaviour affecting:-

* family?

* social life?

* work?

If no to all of these, as you were. If yes to ANY of these, then you might need to reconsider your behaviour.

Iv done he test came back fine. And I do have a high sex drive. Thinks it's the buzz more than anything.

Not sure if there's a difference. But it only matters if you start putting yourself and your health at risk, which addicts are more likely to do.

A recent study showed there's no such thing as addiction, it's a choice.

Scientists set up an experiment with heroin and meth addicts. The idea was the "addicts" were given a choice of either a fix or a monetary choice. The majority chose the monetary item leading the researchers to suggest taking drugs is a choice based upon the environment one is within.

So to relate that to this, no you are not addicted to sex. You are in an evironment where you are consiously choosing to have it.

I heard about this but the subjects were mice? And they weren't given money?

Plus, with your experiment, you can sell the item for money, just saying. Just coz you're an addict doesn't mean you want something 24/7, it means when you do want it you have to have it and will do anything to get it.

BUT my thought is what if the "addicts" had already had their fix then used the money to go buy more drugs?

And you made a good point but then when you want it can be influenced by external factors say for instance you might be on fab therefore aroused but on another occasion you may be somewhere less arousing I don't know umm a funeral maybe?

But either way, this kind of discussion is very interesting.

I personally feel that addictions happen because of several things, based on stuff... and i haven't just made this up.

Firstly, some people enjoy the chemical bonds that chemicals & their receptors give them. Different chemicals will fit better into receptors and give people more of a 'high'. Drugs reproduce these chemicals (that's how come they work), so does your body naturally - dependent on it's physical and emotional state. So based on this your environment, and the way your body reacts to it, can force you to behave a certain way, and possibly make you more prone to addiction. I personally believe this is the primary factor for addiction.

Secondly, some people do not have more productive ways of coping. They will use other methods to make themselves feel fulfilled or just to cope with life on a day to day on a day to day basis. These people may be perfectly fine most of the time, but when they can't cope they'll start to focus on that and might need their addiction to help them stop thinking and this helps them cope. Or they might be more overwhelmed and focus more on their addiction because it distracts them from their actual problem(s).

It's also possible they don't even have any problems, they might just need that 'high' their addiction gives them to feel alive or something.

But yeah it's also possible they had already had drugs (maybe they were tested first? idk). They also might not have wanted to look like they're addicts so acted differently.

The mice one proved that when mice live in miserable environments and were solitary they took the drugs, then changed their behaviour once put back into more positive environments.

I wondered this too as i was spending a disproportionate amount if time online and chasing sex (mostly unsecessfully!!). Decided to have a complete online break from porn, fab and swinging....it lasted 3 weeks!

I was wondering this myself today. I don't consider myself to have an addictive personality but I've found fab very addictive.

It gives me a high to have a good meet but thats because of the social side too. I do love the sex as well but I don't think I'm at the point of addiction..yet.

I was reading about this before, it's not an addiction like gambling is they say, as sex itself is something natural that we need to do, and there's not really an exact amount you would call too much. There's never really an unhealthy amount, only when it impacts your personal and professional life negatively.

Addiction to porn is, and is a real problem. It changes the shape of your brain and affects many things including behavior.

I was going to send a private message, which would have included further details, but here goes some of it.

First of all you should consider if your sexlife is affecting other areas of your life in an adverse manner.

Are peple likely to lose respect for you? If it's something which fits neatly into your social life, and is no threat to your well being, nor to any relationships, then it's o.k. so far.

Are you able to be fussy about who you'll sleep with? (just ask yourself, no need to go public.) If you find it easy enough to say no, then you probably aren't addicted.

I have an incredibly high sex drive and would happily have it all day....every day... However I wouldn't consider it an addiction as it doesn't take priority in my life. Addictions can be selfish and potentially damaging....wanting and needing are two different things

For all my adult life I suffered with an addiction... For the first time in my life my addiction is under control... Sometimes the urges to rebound can get bad...

However the difference between high sex drive and addiction for me is when it affects my life... I have in the past forgotten to get the children... Or gone without food or sleep to get sex... I have taken stupid risks....

It was since meeting Mr deviant that I have it under control...but its always a balancing act.

Real addiction (not the jokey 'oh I'm a sex addict haha') is when it affects other areas of your life. Addiction is a pain killer. What is your pain? Remove that and the addiction will heal all by itself. Not as easy as it sounds but that's my conclusion having dealt with mine for some time. Most of the time you're too much in the madness of addiction to actually deal with the real pain but this is the solution.

If you find that your sex drive gets in the way of other things.....if you are on fab or otherwise chatting to potential partners when you ought to be working, or are with friends/family....if you find yourself hiding the extent of your fabbing....if you get angry when a meet cancels, find yourself feeling that you deserve or are somehow entitled to sex.....then those are signs of addiction.

Remember that the addict often doesn't see these things.

I would say for me it is like anything I do it is a hobby

I have a

Hobby in football, tv shows, Xbox, travelling and swinging

Now there are just not enough hours in the day to do all of those soooooo I tend to flick between them....example at moment I am in horn mode so have been in here more than usual, next week I am football and 2 weeks time I am off to Lithuania for football so switch in to that
