Just out of pure interest, the wife would say she's a bbw but i wouldn't say that at all she's a lovely curvy size 12 with sexy hips and bum.

Would I be wrong in thinking bbw would genuinely address those ladies size 16 and above? Or am I complete dick for even asking? lol sorry just a random debate between me and the wife.

Size 14 is classed as plus size in many countries, er size 12 is slim to me.

I'd say BBW starts at the very least at size 16, for tall ladies it'd probably be an 18/20.

Size 12 is not BBW unless you are about 3 foot tall

I'm a curvy 14 and nowhere near BBW.

Personally I would say BBW could be size 18 and up depending on height but it's a personal thing.

I hate all the size 'terms' but understand why we use them on fab. It's all personal opinion though....id class myself as curvy at 5'6" and a size 10-12 because my body isn't toned or without flabby bits. A meet in person is the only way to decide if a persons description matches your impression of them.

I'm a size 14 but at my height I consider myself borderline curvy/BBW. The reason I probably went with curvy is the beautiful element of the BBW acronym. Although maybe average would be accurate even if I am ingrained to think of average as smaller than me.

Should'nt we go on BMI rather than dress size? I always took the Big in BBW to mean a woman of a fuller figure.

I love bbw's

She was an American vintage size 14, so about a UK 10 in current sizing. Sorry

"Only if she's VERY short. I'm 16/18 and still wouldn't call myself BBW."

This is precisely why I find the 'size' definitions on fab baffling.

To be technical, Curvy is NOT a size. It is a description of a shape.

Fabulous is also NOT a size. It is a term expressive of how great something is.

What I find amazing is that in this country, as around the world, there is actually a system in place that is universal.

For women it is the 'size' system e.g. size 10, 12, 16 etc

Aside from slight variations between clothing manufacturers, we can all get a pretty good idea of someone's size if we were to use this instead of 'curvy'

(we men even have a system based on waist and chest measurements in inches)

I remember, back in the 80's, when 'Fabulous' was first used and it was usually adopted by fashion guru's to describe those ladies of larger proportions and was more about the whole self esteem thing. Being big and comfortable etc

So, my understanding of size 'Fabulous' is bigger than large.

Where it gets confusing is that those young ladies that aren't familiar with this might describe themselves as 'Fabulous' and be a size 10 or 12.

See where the confusion comes in - especially when there are no pictures on display.

Sizing can be misleading too because of the height factor. Tbh I think fab is missing "a bit chubby" or "slightly porky", that's the options I'd like to see I prefer people describe themselves as whatever they want though as I can't imagine ever meeting someone with no photos anyway.

When you sign up to this site the sizing runs from slim.....average.....curvy...past large.....all the way to fabulous - I chose fabulous because it was a sliding scale and fabulous was, by its position in the list, the biggest.....they do not have fat as an option but just to be sure I have plenty of pics of me naked - some showing lovely rolls of fat so you can see for yourself what you are getting

I'm a lot shorter than you and a size 14 as well and I'm sticking with curvy. I just calculated my BMI and it's 28. Considering it was 39 two years ago I'm sticking with curvy for the time being. It's definitely heading in the right direction anyway regardless of my remaining podgy bits to shift.

You never get it right whatever you put, I used to have ample on my profile and I'd get messages daily telling me I'm not so I changed it ti curvy but I personally don't feel this is a correct body description for me

no matter what you put somebody will disagree even yourself at times

I am a size 14, and don't class myself anything other than curvy - i carry a little extra weight around the tummy but have wide hips that have no fat. When I wake up in the am my belly is flat but I would never class myself as anything other than curvy. I think a lot of the problem is with self image - just love yourself whatever size you are and dont succumb to pier pressure remember what you see in the glossy magazines is just normal people like you and I and the magic of airbrushing

I must say that I am very confused by the distinctions, but as a simple man who does love ladies with a fuller figure, curvy/BBW/fabulous ladies are absolutely gorgeous.

Not sure that this has really advanced the discussion much though!

When I was a 12/14 I thought I was fat.. Now I'm a 18/20 (ok 22 usually!) I wish I could click my fingers and go back to being that size again.

I wouldn't use the term BBW for myself because I feel more beautiful when I'm thinner I'm just fat now! And would choose that if it was an option on here

I haven't read all the messages above, so I'm probably repeating other comments. I really don't think a size 12 is a big beautiful woman, bless her. She can be happy just dropping the "bee" part.

"Bring out the BMI's folks!"

That was suggested earlier, its rubbish. I'm just under 15 stone, 5ft 8 and a size 18 but do not consider myself BBW but my BMI puts me in the obese category. Just look at a full length pic of someone, dress size and BMI are deceiving.

It all depends on height to dress size ratio. Someone who id 4'6 and size 12 could well be a bbw, but 6'2 and size 14 would probably be curvy to slim? If ypu dont have a defined waist then i think you move from curvy to the next level

I'm a size 18 on average. 18/20 tops, 14-16 bottom. I have always described myself as a Bbw... Or if there are options to describe your body shape I always choose the largest there is. To me slim is 6-12 , curvy 12-14 , anything above that would be Bbw in my opinion .

I'm short 5'2" and a size 22. With those stats there is no denying I'm anything but fat, or if you want to get technical, morbidly obese. However, I most definitely have a defined waist, it measures 12 inches less than my hips.

I guess that makes me a curvy fatty

And as far as the suggestion of the cut off being when your belly gets bigger than the boobs.......not a hope in hell of that ever happening with these bad boys

Personally, I dislike the term bbw and never use it

I'm a size 18 so a big bird! Minus the yellow feathers. Bbw really is an odd term, I think I have large or ample as my body size on here. I'm more toned now than I've been in a long time and losing more weight. But I'm larger than average which I make clear.

To me, I'd think bbw starts around a size 18, but everyone will have their own interpretation on it.

Not sure, size 20 plus?! Women carry weight differently. I'm a size 22 and could be a walking advert for Michelin tyres, so I'd def class myself as BBW and not curvy as I ts sociable under my mind, curvy being more size 14/16/18 but BBW is a generic term. Could mean tall and beautiful too.

Any dress size 16 or over are classed as plus sizes..

Therefore size 16 and over would be classed as BBW..

Under a size 16 I would say curvy,

under size 12 would be slim.

But that's just my guessing

I think it all comes down to personal preference

Ask 100 people what size a BBW is and you will get several different replies

Men who like big women will see BBWs starting at a bigger size than those who don't

Im a size 14 but because of my hight I think I must carry my weight better I would class myself as ample figured though when I had ample on my profile people would mail me all the time telling me I'm not so I changed it to curvy even though I personally don't feel curvy is a true description of my as I see curvy as slim with shape

However I had a message the other day from a guy I had winked that simply said sorry i dont like fat women

And that's not a moan about the message he has his right to turn me down but it just goes to show not everybody sees body size the same you get some guys telling you your not fat and others turning you down because you are

It's all I'm the eye of the beholder

I think people are getting mixed up with the word 'curvy' and the word 'size'.

You could be any size and still be curvy. To me curvy is if your waist is smaller than your boobs and hips. Perhaps the typical hour glass figure? Whatever size someone is.

If there is no curve, ie waist the same or similar size as boobs or hips, then you are not curvy. This would apply to those who are athletic, if and only if, there boobs and hips are a similar size to their waist, as well as those ladies who are larger.

To me its not size that denotes curvy.

OK let's go to the other end of the scale

What if you waste is smaller than your hips but you have a big over hang on your belly and rolls down your back, is that still curvy or is that just fat?

Im not being rude I'm just wondering when curvy stops being curvy and starts being fat

It's still curvy, you stop being curvy when you don't have curves.

Like the quoted post says, typically wide hips, slimmer waist and wider at the chest for the hourglass curve shape.

Wide hips slimmer at the waist and a chest that doesn't widen is pear shaped which is still curvy.

It goes by looking at the person from a frontal _iew, not sideways.

If the body doesn't noticeably come in at the waist compared to the hips, you're not curvy.

I just don't see fat women as curvy, rolls are not curves

Im going to use myself as an example so I can't be accused of fat bashing

My waste is smaller than my hips that does not automatically make me curvy, to me curvy is slim with a femanine shape and I am neither

Even though my waste is smaller than my hips I'm quite saggy, due to loosing nearly half my body weight since last year, my belly is very loose and my boobs are saggy which stops me having a femanine figure

I just don't think that all because your boobs to waste to hip ratio goes in and out you automatically are curvy I see other factors as well

And I think you'll find its me who's correct

I dedcribe myself as curvy and am accepted at bbw events.

I am 5'10 and a size 18 cutrently.

A couple or three years ago I was a 14/16 and was borderline too thin for bbw events (so I was told!)

Its about what you are confortable as. And no one is gonna tell me that I can or can't describe myself as curvy because I have put on/lost a stone or two.

Why are rolls not curves? They curve..they're not straight or flat! So there! Big beautiful woman is not an offensive term..how can it be? People only get funny about it when they don't like to be seen as very big which is where the word is usually attached. Oh BBW must mean I'm really fat as opposed to just a little curvy.

"Im a 18 top 22/24 bottom but I have thick thighs I accept I am not everyone's cup of tea but I like my curves and use bbw as a badge of honour. I see myself sexy in my own way

indeed!"

What ever size or shape you are... Own it, accept it, call it what you want but unless you are confident about it you will struggle to be truly sexy x your mind will hold you back

I class myself as curvy because I'm not overly keen on the term BBW I'm a size 16/18 busty but I guess it's all personal opinion and preference so just go with your figure I guess xx

I'm a 16 and use the term curvy. To some I might be large. To others I might be fat. I don't brand myself as anything really. To me a BBW has confidence and that shines through. I know I don't have that. People of any size can have that x

I design and make fetish clothing for bbw ladies and my sizes start at 22 up to a size 34 I really don't think personally any woman under size 20 is a bbw in my own opinion but everyone has there own perception on this of course and also free to put themselves in whatever catagory they wish to if your size 14-18 your average in my book size 12 athletic sizes under that your slim either way what ever your size ladies your all beautiful just as you are

I get altogether confused by curvy and BBW. To my mind Marilyn Monroe was very curvy, but also very very slim compared to a lot of the "curvy" women here on fab. And surely a beautiful woman is beautiful irrespective of her size. Nobody is beautiful because they are big, although they can be both big and beautiful.

"Why are rolls not curves? They curve..they're not straight or flat! So there! Big beautiful woman is not an offensive term..how can it be? People only get funny about it when they don't like to be seen as very big which is where the word is usually attached. Oh BBW must mean I'm really fat as opposed to just a little curvy."

Same here, I am told by my male friends I am curvy not bbw, although I see myself as bbw sometimes, and depending on what I wear.. So curvy is what I am

"Just out of pure interest, the wife would say she's a bbw but i wouldn't say that at all she's a lovely curvy size 12 with sexy hips and bum.

Would I be wrong in thinking bbw would genuinely address those ladies size 16 and above? Or am I complete dick for even asking? lol sorry just a random debate between me and the wife. "

it is obvious to me that someone who is a size 12 and says she is a bbw has either got body dysmorphia or is fishing for compliments

The average size is not 16. That is big by anybody's standards. Sorry, but it is.

Past GF of mine was size 10, 5'7 but very athletic, as in she was an athlete, as was I. She had curves.

My ex was a size 6, but perfectly formed - she was 5'3. Again she had curves in all the right places, but she was still petite.

I don't mind bigger ladies, but let's get real about the size you really are.

I put down athletic for myself, because, well, I am. I train, I look after myself. I'm not a Greek god, but I am in good shape and always have been.

Some people however are little economical with the truth which serves no-one.

The whole range of terminology on fab leaves a lot to be desired. BBW often means morbidly obese. 'Rugby player build' means flabby with man boobs and no muscle mass. Gym fit means skinny with lots of b=visible abs. Mental tbh.

Anything? I'm not a thing thank you!

I'm a size six (In trousers), doesn't make me unsexy or unhealthy, I was just built petite, plus I actually think clothes are being made bigger but with smaller label's, so sorry if I have just burst some peoples bubbles.

The comment is typica of the quite respectable dislike of petite people, small sized ladies. OK to be 'curvy' size 20, but not OK to be a sexy size 8 or under. World has gone mad.

Uk average is size 14/16 id say 20+ is bbw but thats just my opinion. I think we should all stop worrying about labels as I believe sexiness is measured in confidence so stop focusing on labels and learn to love your bodies no matter what shape or size.

I'd call myself a BBW - I'm a size 18/20. I'd say a 12 would be slim to curvy depending on height and assets. I think anything around a size 16+ would be a BBW x

I wasn't actually disagreeing with them, I picked up up on the 'anything' and used it as a play on words!

But I do think sizing has changed dramatically of late, ie I wouldn't fit into a Topshop size six but I need a Next size six. I used to be able to pick up a size ten off the shelf without having to try anything on (Ok I may have been 1/2 stone heavier), but now? You need to try everything on in various sizes. So size isn't really indicative just now in my opinion.

Curvy: someone with a well-defined waist and bigger hips and bum than average.

BBW: a woman who is big and beautiful.

You are welcome.
