I really want to go to a club. Never experienced one, but I think I might be too shy. Plus going on my own... Makes me think of guys going to the cinema alone, odd?

If that is going to be your mindset going in... I think I can save you time, clubs are not going to be for you....

However, if you go to a club with an open mind and no expectations, then give it a go....

The thing about clubs is that you still have to socialise and talk to people... If you are that shy then that is a much bigger issue and a you issue

To be fair, they're nothing like each other.

Going to clubs - you're going to go out for a few hours to socialise with people that you've not met before.

Going to cinema - you're going to sit in dark room for three hours and not talk to anyone. (What's odd about doing that on your own? I always thought cinemas were weird places for dates.)

If you can talk to people, go to the club. If you're just going to stand on your own all night, I wouldn't bother. But taking another person won't help, if you'll only talk to them and not everyone else.

This

I would recommend going to a few socials first, get to know some people is a less intimidating environment. Also the same club can vary a lot from one evening to another. Sometimes a club can be great fun, other times the same club on the same night but another week can be quite frankly boring as hell. It all depends who's there and what they're doing.

Although to be fair, I find clubs far, far easier than socials/munches as a painfully shy person. Clubs you can take a break from the socialising, you can go for a wander, have a perv, take some time to yourself to people watch, etc. Socials/munches don't offer that opportunity in the same way.

I go to the cinema alone and never really thought that was odd. I suspect if I took a straw poll of friends, most would think the fact that I go to swinging clubs on my own as more "odd!". You get out of clubs what you put in (just like this site) - grasp the nettle, talk to people and smile, you'll be surprised at how welcome you'll be made to feel.

If you think you are too shy don't go. Find another way to get a meet. Nothing worse than being stuck with someone for the night who should never have set foot inside the place. Clubs aren't for everyone. You have to have some social skills to enjoy them.
