formatting sd card

A club not so many miles away

I'm trying to retrieve all my pics off my sd card but it's saying that it needs formatting first, if I was to do this my pictures would all be lost. I've Googled it and it says I need to download a decoder; this is where my computer skills let me down is there anyone that can help me with this? Obviously with the content of the pics I do not want to take it into the shop to be done nor ask my brother as I would do normally. Please don't offer if you do not know what you are doing and are only interested in a shag. The only thing you will be getting in return is a selection of the best pics off the sd card. Thank you in advance

In a similar situation recently I downloaded the demo version of a programme called ZAR (zero Assumption Recovery) from their website, followed the directions about recovering images and it worked well

Near Carmarthen

Google for 'Recuva', should do the trick.

No. 1 If you format the card you will lose all data currently stored on it.

No. 2 If you are getting a message advising you need to format the card then this is becauae the device can not read it. Try removing and reinserting and trying again.

Try the card on another device.

Here's the rub though. SD cards are not 100% reliable - especially the cheap ones - so there's a possibility you may not be able to retrieve your data.

I had a similar issue with some video from a job I did at Christmas. Fortunately, it was only a couple of shots that I ended up losing

by the big field

If you've removed an SD card from a camera and inserted it into a PC, it might be unreadable by the PC as some cameras have a different formatting profile.

Try inserting it into the camera and see if you can see the images, if you can, use the USB cable to connect the camera to the PC, then import them using your image capture software.

If you can't see them on the camera, then there is a corruption on the card, in which case try the suggestions above to recover it.

I've taken the advice you have all given and I am going to try with the software you have suggested. If it does work (which I'm keeping my fingers crossed it does) you'll see the evidence online in the next few days. Thank you for all your advice
