Ladies - smears

Ladies, having always had abnormal smears, I am amazed I've reached 41 to have my first biopsy. Anyway, there is evidence of HPV and I saw the section on the screen where the abnormal cells are, it appeared quite large. I suspect owing to the fact that I also have auto immune disease means these things are going to be harder to fight off in future. So I was wondering, if I have the cervix removed would this decrsase pleasure in this area? Thanks x

I have no idea to be honest, but I had to have a biopsy last June and being followed up every 6 months.

I'm only at cin 1 stage, so I am not worrying just yet.

What stage was yours caught at?

Hi there

If you have had dodgy smears for a while wit HPV then you should have the biopsy. It won't affect sensation as the cervix is a great healer. You will have pink ish watery discharge for about 3-4 weeks tops which you won't want to play through, but normal services should be resumed after that! lol

The main concern a woman should have, which isn't really a 'thing' as prevention of cancer should trump everything...but if a woman had not finished having children, then biopsies of the cervix can affect the dilatation of the cervix in labour..it can dilate really quickly or if the scar tissue is tough, it can take longer.

I am only saying this as there may be other women out there who are thinking of children post biopsy.

As for sex...you will be fine

Thanks. Some women report that they can't have a vaginal orgasm after removal of the cervix. I was wondering about this too.

I don't think they will remove it just to save you having to keep having biopsies. And if you do end up needing any treatment, they will try their hardest to treat without losing your cervix

I have to agree having had problems and operations. Especially for the last 12 years.

What I would be thinking is is my sexual pleasure more important than my health. Will you at some point have to have it removed anyway ?

I had my cervix removed as part of a total hysterectomy in 2013....it's not affected my orgasms at all.

Totally agree! Sex is fun but when I got the news last year I stopped meeting until my mind was in the right place and I was no longer worrying after getting all the facts from the doctor, I am very happy to be monitored every six months and if no invasive treatment is required? The happier I am!

I too caught mine at stage one. I had a biopsy and to be honest, I had no bleeding after the first day.

Whatever treatment is suggested, do it, cancer is not something you mess with just in case you stop having orgasms!!!

I had an abnormal smear test last November. I have had a punch biopsy done which came back with the results of cin2-3. I then had to have a loop biopsy done in January. I am now nervously awaiting the results letter. Hope all goes well for the ladies who have recently been tested xx
