I am just canvassing for a few ideas for a female friend of mine. She is looking to make some decent money but has no real work experience.

Basically she is 20 years old, slim and very attractive, but has never had a proper job she has stuck to.

She is quite open minded work wise, although I wouldn't want Her going as far as doing anything like escort or massage work.

I just want to stress this post is not asking for work, money or offering her services. I am just looking for a few ideas if possible. Thanks

What skills does she have? What sort of work are you suggesting she can do? You say you don't want her doing escort work. That implies you have some sort of control over your 'friend'. Maybe she should get down the Jobcentre like other young people do.

As your 'friend' is young with no real work experience then the majority of jobs available will pay the minimum wage for her age. Regardless of her looks an employer wants someone who can do the job and stick to it.

As for jobs there could be lots out there but you've given no indication of any skills she may possess. As been said she should be seeking advice from the job centre

The job center doesn't help anyone x ur not allowed to go into college to improve your skills they want to control the person and stop there benefits x

I was in college which would of helped get a job but they told me to leave or get your my money stopped x

im on a course now that would help me get a job and they told me that they wouldn't pay busfair x

Thanks to the teachers that are on the course I have a great cv and 2 job interviews lined up, a job I start next training next week x

Her looks are irrelevant unless she IS indeed looking to be an escort or model (you mention her looks, yet nothing about her skills - is she hoping to skate through life being a Bimbo?).

Surely SHE must have some idea of what she could be good at? You don't get anything for nothing so if she wants a decent wage she is going to have to work at it and stick at it.

Just wondering - what does being 'slim and very attractive' have to do with looking for work?

More importantly, what does she enjoy?

For example no point recommending being a personal trainer if she doesn't enjoy the gym. Or an office job if she really loves being outside.

What does she do for fun and for a hobby?

I think this post is ridiculous! Why mention her looks at all?! of course you want her to escort or similar otherwise her age, build and looks wouldn't come into it.

The rules are cant enrol yourself on a course thats more then 16hrs a week and most courses are 18hrs x

the government has closed all are student apartments and organisations that did help for over 20s so 8ts even harder for people like me to find a job x

As I work in a college dealing with under 25's they do have a student provision for job searches and will happily discuss apprenticeships and options of combining learning and earning. There is funding available under the apprenticeship banner for people 16 - 64 across Britain. As for the job centre not wanting to help well it's in their interest to get people back to and in work. There are plenty of evening classes which cover the basics maths, English, ICT which can be funded if the applicant has no previous qualifications so they can work full time and still gain quals. There are jobs out there people just need to make the effort and apply.

I have finished college with a level 3 diploma so I wouldn't be able to get a apprenticeship and i have Maths and English qualifications and many other qualifications x

i ended with depression cause I couldnt find a job or go back and do other courses that would help me x I dont like sitting on my arse all day doing fuck all so im doing every course available to me x

Iv had a warehouse job through a recruitment agency since then iv had interviews with no luck so far x

Teaching Assistant - volunteer for experience, go on a bank of supply teachers with Local Authority or Agency and then do training courses to better your grade and if you like it do teacher training.

Your level three will preclude you from certain funding you're right. Your situation is different from that described

in the op.

I don't agree with the 'there are jobs out there you just have to look for them" it's incredibly patronising and insulting to the many people I know who have been brought to near ruin by unemployment and have certainly looked, very hard.

couple of children read then put yourself on the staff calendar as a supply teacher.

I understand. From direct experience and involvement I can only suggest that you ensure that your cv is as good as it can be, you investigate every possible leaf (I'm sur you do anyway) and remain as positive as possible which I know is very difficult. Have a look at vidion2learn for courses that might give you an extra edge (they're free and completely on line) and look at volunteer work a few hours a week to give you extra experience. Good luck, stay positive & try not to listen to people who imply you just aren't trying hard enough they usually have no idea what it's like.

for likes of the asda they employ you just to free staff for 4 weeks then lay you off the sent me to work without wages or a job at the end x

If there's certain types of jobs people are looking for it can be soul destroying visiting the jobcentre. A lot of people being forced into taking the first thing that comes up as opposed to what tbey want to do. Its like it's all set up to dissuade young people from gaining a proper education unless their parents have the money to put them through college and uni or their willing to be bankrupted before they ever work!

As a side note ever thought about fundraising for charity?

Best tip for getting the job you want - volunteer to do it to get the skills.

I am in the job I am now, after 14 years out of work due to a health issue - and a lack of support to manage it (still have health issue, but better management options)

I volunteered for about a year in the field I wanted to get back into working in (I had previously done similar a long time ago, and had volunteered off and on as health allowed)

My volunteering, and previous volunteering saw me landing my current job ahead of degree qualified applicants, and people already working in the field in paid jobs - I had passion, belief and a real understanding of the field and issues. I'm now very chuffed to work 18 hours a week in the job of my dreams - showing my son a much better life.

I still actively volunteer, love my job, and have also passed some other training since taking it on to add in a gym instructor qualification (completely unrelated to every day job)

Basic message - if you want something, get off your arse and get it, or at least try your hardest.

VSOICS are a charity which takes you to 3rd world countries and you live and work with the people. I did this in Ethiopia and it was a great experience.

She could also learn coding/programming and apply that to freelance work. Making websites or making apps/games and putting it on the market.

Both are free.

For VSOICS all the meeting, selection and training are in London but if you ask they will pay for your trip and stay and eventual tickets if you pass and fundraise.

As for the latter, some books from WHSmith (The BookSeries: Coding for Beginners) or Google Search, Open Culture.

Unfortunately we don't live in a World where everyone does the job of their dreams.

I have dealt with the Jobcentre many times and know how soul destroying it can be when they look at you like something on the bottom of their shoe while your confidence and self-esteem slowly fall apart week after week of unemployment.

However, there are so many people fighting for these jobs that you could be waiting for years to find the one you love, and the government can't afford to pay you until that comes along, ergo, they would rather you had SOME sort of job to support yourself and then you could carry on looking during employment.

People who have qualifications and degrees aren't exactly singing their praises atm either. I know many graduates who are still working in BHS and local cafés and bars because they don't have hands on experience and therefore, the degrees aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
