[Tmi] Contraception & Unwanted Side Effects

Hey, was just wondering what other ladies do about the often unwanted side effects of their contraception choice?

I had the Mirena Coil done back in June, and it has caused me almost constant and very unpredictable bleeding until early December, now it has eased down a lot but when my partner and I have sex it can sometimes trigger a light bleed - that's fine at home sure, but what if I want to meet someone? Do I warn them first? Or wear one of those cordless tampons just incase?

How would you ladies go about that conversation? I just don't know

It's a very frustrating situation lol I'm a very open person and would tell anyone anything but don't want to make people feel uncomfortable with my conversation choice haha

Also, where people have been asking me why I've been away from the site for so long, or why I've had an account for so long without meeting people - would you tell them that's the reason upfront or just make other excuses so as not to say it (bare in mind that is my genuine reason..)

Sorry long post x

I have the same coil as you hun. At first it regulated my periods and then all of a sudden it stopped them altogether. The light bleeding will go away xx

Yeah I'm hoping so, that's why I chose this as my option to be honest.

I'm fine with the bleeding, but I'm under a little (polite) pressure as to why I've not been wanting to meet people we've spent so long chatting to - I'm sure if I say the real reason they would understand but I don't know how to say it haha

You are under polite pressure??!!! what is that? red flag going up here!! I'm having my fallopian tubes removed next month. If anyone tries to pressure me back into swinging too soon they will be blocked. Oh and I'm having my tubes removed because my coil migrated through my womb two years ago. I nearly died and the infection is still there in my tubes. so be careful ladies x

I agree, tell them to fuck right off. I had sterilisation surgery at the end of last summer and I had some guys pestering me for S&M meets as little as a week afterwards! My stitches didn't come out for almost a month!

The Mirena hormones are local, they don't get systemically absorbed in any sort of level so the hormone swings that are making you that way are your own ones!

An ex had a similar problem and she was way way better on the oral combined pill which stabilised her hormones no end

I had coil when I was younger and I was fine with it. I'm now sterilised so I don't have any side effects and my periods are minimal.

Perhaps say that you do suffer from a light bleed after a period and say that you have just finished. Then if you do bleed 'oops sorry, I did tell you I might bleed'

Mostly in GU24

I've three Mirena iuds over 12 years. The first two were wonderful after the settling in time I hag no bleeding at all.

Now, 3 years into the current ius I've had bleeding for six days every time I have sex. So, I bought some beppy sponges. These are ok but be careful. I got one rammed right up my alley last week. Took me 36 hrs to get it out! I'm going armed with a pink towel from now on!

I've got to have a hysteroscopy, samples of my uterus taken, a new Mirena and cauterisation of my cervix soon. That should sort my bleeding out!

So pleased to find this post. I'm currently undergoing tests etc because I keep bleeding after sex since have the Mirena fitted. Got the 'cervical cancer' cloud hanging over me so i'm relieved to know many others are experiencing the same and there's no hidden scary cause!

I had a Mirena coil fitted 2 years ago to help with very, very heavy periods that were causing iron deficiency anemia.

Took 6 months to settle down and I had frequent breakthrough bleeding and some discomfort but in comparison to before it was minor - couldn't be out an hour without needing bathroom due to flooding

Have had 1 episode of breakthrough bleeding again and do get spotting after sex but barely noticeable.

I would say I am glad I have persevered

Nick had one fitted after we started in the lifestyle and didn't get on with it all. Continuous bleeding and complete loss of mojo. After 6 months she went to her doctor who refused to remove it so she went down the family planning clinic.

I've tried almost every form of contraception except the coil, I ended up having my 4th baby in 2011 and had my tubes tied age 27 as I couldn't cope with having anymore kids or having to try endless different types

Of contraception

I have intermittent bleeding maybe due to menopause onset. Anything not soft touching my cervix can set it off. I explain to men and they can decide what to do

I had Mirena too and I hated it. Constant bleed and it made me very moody. I battled with the docs for months and they finally took it out. I've gone back to Depo and so much happier. No more monthly problems except I binge eat for a week every month but I can deal with that lol

Wish you well tho xx

Also hoping I don't pile weight on as I have on other types of pills!

with a few health problems i had no choice but to have the mirena coil fitted, yes i bled for 5months non-stop as about to give it up and then i stopped bleeding altogether!

I say each to there own and u have what suits your body ladies!

I only ever bleed slightly when i have a vwe cock inside me and and the pentrative sex has to be deep! not all men can use the vwe cock right trust me but with my man he does make me feel the whole length which is good but can make me bleed slightly then stops!.

Ive noticed even thoe u dont see a period u still have the symptoms and when you cervix drops near the time thats when i'm prone to slight bleed?

I say take or use whatever suits u best and stay with it x

No red flag! Honestly, I too, get rid of people I don't like, but there are a few people that we get on with really well and are at that stage where chatting about my day at work or my hobbies and interests are not exactly what either of us want and seeing how I had explained nothing to do with it (no-one knows I even had it done) and then I suddenly went cold for 6 months, cutting out all flirting or even replying to people in some cases - it's moreso pressure that they are still interested and so are we, so I needed a way to explain that to them before they do actually give up on us lol especially as we are newbies to the scene and people probably thought we were fakes being on for nearly a year with no veris...

All sorted now though

I had Mirena & bled 3 out of 4 weeks for the entire 13 months I had it in. Was terrible! I gained 15 lbs within 3 months and was a self-professed "Asexual"- no sex drive whatsoever! I refer to it as the devils work. I should've known better as I had similar issues with the depo jab but the Doc talked me into trying it. Best thing I ever did was have it removed.

I personally don't think its that bad.

If I had a choice I would go on the normal pill (But too fat for that)

And the other Pills have sent me schizo in the past... literal violence and depression stages.

This has had very few side affects, surprising as I am susceptible to hormonal changes and in tune with my body.

Its just the damn bleeding... embarrassing

I don't care when I'm with hubby, it's just how it hinders my confidence to push forward with this lifestyle!

Go back to your doctor and tell them what's going on. That happened to me when I'd the bar in my arm and ended up having to take it out an overdrive of hormones was the cause of it.

I'm fine now since I got it out. Some contraception things don't agree with some people

Two years of hell, heavy irregular bleeds, pain after sex, horrendous, tried all sorts of different hormonal one to include Depo and implant,it was all sending me loopy!! Well I feel the need to say that. I also have the same mirena coil its been in 7weeks now ive just finshed 11 days of some really strong tablets tranexacid 500mg out of the last 11 days I manged to have sexy once but like you said there was still a little of pink blood after thank god hubby tried before i arranged any meets. I will be going back to the doctors for my check up this week and to tell her whats happend so far.

When she gave me the tablets she said have faith give it time there are a few things we can try...

So I will wait and see what she give me next. Im keeping strong tho as Ive done the lot now and there not much choise for me left.

If meets are off the cards for now then thats the way it is as a woman we have to listen to our bodys. Yeah its unfair but at least we are still here to tell the tail.

I've given it a long hard thought, believe me!! We are lucky to have the two children and since I was very ill during both of my pregnancies and spent a long time in hospital I am not putting myself or my family through it all again. But I can see where you're coming from by all means!!

No bleeding,I know sterilising won't stop the bleeding, but my surgeon also did an endometrial ablation which worked a treat...it doesn't work for everybody, but it certainly has for me!!

Wow that's great your bleeding has stopped Personally I would choose the coil over the pill any day because it's not affected by sickness / antibiotics, once it's in you don't have to remember to do something each day, the hormones are just local as opposed to the pill and other forms where the hormones circulate around your entire bloodstream

I have the implant in myself. The first month was fine second month bled for three weeks then the next two months were grand. Since then for about two months I've had continuous spotting and heavy bleeding. I'm on iron supplements as have anaemia now from the constant bleed but sex drive is higher than ever. May not be for most but I've started to use beppy sponges, means i can enjoy my meets and guys dont even realise. No point in going back to my doctor as she'll just point out its still settling but even so wouldn't get it removed as like the security that will keep me protected

"I had it and it stopped my periods, maybe a call to your doctor or sex health clinic to get it checked??x"

Wasnt sure if this comment is for me but why would I do either.I see the surgery nurse every 12 weeks and its a side effect of the depo in some people.

I for one love not having periods

After reading your postings just reinforces the thoughts of how lucky I am to be a fella.

Though also reinvigorates my admiroration and respect that women like you despite these issues are open to sharing yourselfs with others.

You are truely wonderous creatures.

I hated that coil, but since I'm older and done with baby days I had endometrial ablation. Under anaesthetic the womb lining is cauterised.

Best thing I did. No periods at all, no aches or pains.

Although still get mood swings!

"Hey, was just wondering what other ladies do about the often unwanted side effects of their contraception choice?

Sorry long post x"

Hey babe, my mum had the coil and she said she had bleeding for ages... best thing to do is to go to the doctor and they can see what they can do... it's not for everyone... I'm on the pill, and I do get quite extreme mood swings (but that could be uni life stresses rather than hormone imbalances) and I love it on the whole ... no period, no blood, occasionally a little bit of spotting, but nothing heavy heavy. Been on for three months and it's really made things so much easier for me. I'm very careful about when I take it though, and insist on condom usage with the main man even, if I miss one.

I wouldn't necessarily start off with 'I've not met for ages bc of my implant' but it's certainly worth talking about with someone if you've been chatting for a fair while! If someone doesn't want to meet based on that alone then they're a bit shallow, if you ask me! Hope it all clears up soon! xxx

"Why would you choose a coil over a pill?

I just can't get my head around having one of those. All I've ever heard are borrow stories. Microgynon all the way!"

Some of us can't use the pill, the combined pill cannot be taken for anyone with a bmi over 35, even though my blood pressure examinations have all been in healthy range, and the broad spectrum hormones in the mini pill literally led to me throwing things screaming for no reason and actually pulled a knife on my father over a simple verbal argument ... So yeah, coil is just fine here I think haha

I really don't mind the bleeding that wasn't the point of the thread, it was moreso how people approach the issue with others

I started on the pill (for years) but had to stop as I discovered it was the pill causing my almost daily migraine type headaches. Then had normal coil which worked great...until I got pregnant with it in! Tried different pill with same result and then tried mirena coil which I got them to remove after a couple of months as it turned me into a hormonal bitch

Don't use anything now (well condoms for meets obviously) as Hex had a vasectomy, then a reversal 5 years later but while it worked, his count came back very low. Two years on with no success so we can safely say we don't need anything.

Hids

Due to post-labour complications I am not allowed the combined pill - and with my health issues it's better to have a coil until I can get myself spayed lol

See cerazette did exactly the same to me as the coil was doing, except it sent me schizo too haha

I am now pleased to announce that I think my original complaint was the last stage of settling as we've been at it like rabbits all week with no bleeding side effects

OP, your original question was what do u tell them. Tell them the truth. If they can't handle it then you no that they aren't worth it. Most swing couples I no off would welcome the honesty, except the situation and wait until you are ready.swinging is about the social side as well as the sex.
