The right place

I'm interested in exploring the darker side. I don't want to go too far too fast but if anyone is willing to show me the ropes (so to speak) I would be very interested.

Why not try the kage on the last Sunday of the month.

There is a great event run down here but Derby is a little far... but it's very laid back .

Just as others have suggested look for munches...

You travel around a lot.

In London you have London Alternative Market, and London Fetish Fair. Both on differing Sundays, both have after parties. Informative and fun, they have workshops and other like-minded people you can talk to.

In Birmingham you have BBB - Birmingham Bizarre Bazaar. Again, a very informative event, lovely people.

Google them all and attend them, you won't get much better insight into this truly diverse world.

Thanks for all the advise. I guess I was hoping for a more personal mentor type of deal.

I worked out what a Munch is. (Short for Burger Munch) basically a social for people looking to explore the scene. Which sounds ideal.

Next thing is to find out when and where they happen.

There is a special site for BDSM and on this site the local munchies are all listed where and when.

It is the easiest way to get to know people without being stressed; to go to a club event might just be a bit too much for a start - okay most are tame, but some in London are hard core

The markets are day events and no pressure at all.

Obviously depending on where you are in London, there is a local coffee meet at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex. There are bound to be closer ones to you.

You just have to find the right site and find them!!

Townhouse has a fet night on the first and third Friday of each month

There are plenty of Munches about you can try as well
