I tend to go every 12 weeks when I go for my depro. I have routine bloods done and scrape my nurse does it for me most doctors surgeries offer free chlamydia tests now but you have to be under 25 but if yr over you can still have it done but they charge you for it

We have reg tests at family planning centres gum clinic or our doctor. We are both over 25 and have never been charged.

I think your getting your wores crossed cause under 25's can get a home test kit for free but over 25's get charged.

Every 6 months, it's free and you get lots of free condoms. The last time we went the health visitor gave us tons of condoms, saying "try these to stop the man cumming too soon, use these for anal, have some flavoured ones for oral, try these patterned ones for female stimulation...etc'

They're very non-judgemental about our swinging lifestyle although they do keep on trying to persuade us to use condoms for oral with other partners, which we don't like.

Genito-urinary medicine deals with the male and female sexual organs and the urinary system (the system in the body that produces, stores and gets rid of urine). Your GP might refer you to a sexual health clinic if you have a problem with these parts of your body. You can also make an appointment to see someone at a sexual health clinic without being referred by your GP.

GUM clinics can usually give you tests for sexual and urinary health problems, such as:

•sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis, gonorrhoea, genital warts, and chlamydia

•HIV or AIDs

•cystitis (bladder infection)

•other infections of the genitals, such as thrush

At most GUM clinics you can make an appointment for a general check up, which also include tests for a range of STIs. Before starting a new sexual relationship, it's a good idea for you and your partner to be tested for any sexually transmitted infections. You might also want to have a check-up before trying for a baby.

GUM clinics can provide contraceptive advice, including free emergency contraception and condoms. Some clinics may also be able to fit cervical caps or diaphragms (a form of contraception), and provide cervical smear tests (a test to check for any abnormal cells in the neck of the womb). They can also offer advice and counselling on a range of sexual health issues, and provide support if you're having an HIV test, or if you have been diagnosed as HIV positive.

If you visit a GUM clinic, everything that is discussed is completely confidential. Your GP will not be told about your visit, and you do not have to give your real name if you do not want to.

little house on the praire

We dont have a gum clinic here as such. We have family planning and i get my bloods done at same time as i have my normal bloods done (3/4 times a year). I also get my coil checked frequently although there isnt really a need but it is possible to get general infections from it. Ive never had to or heard of anyone, ever, having to pay for any tests, surely if this happened it would deter people from going to get checked. Thankfully for me apart from cystitious the only thing ive ever had in my life was one bout of thrush and that was caused by antibiotics

If you do a Google search for "condom essential wear" it comes up with the NHS site and has locations of clinics all over the UK as well as lot's of other info.

My friends mother was a school nurse for the NHS and also gave contraceptive advice in youth clubs, drop in contraceptive clinics etc. She told me it is recommended that you go for a full std check every 3-6 months and every six months for a hiv test- whenever you having any sort of sexual relationship , i.e monogamous, open ,multiple partners or not, one night stand. other than that anytime you think you could have been exposed to an sti i.e you have been sexually intimate with someone who has been treated/diagnosed, no condom, broken condom, condom fell off etc

We get tested every month, we don't do bareback sex but there are still risks with kissing and oral sex, and peace of mind is important to us.

We just go to the local GUM Clinic here in Stoke, it's a free and easy service (unless you require a written certificate) and you get a call as soon as the results come back to let you know the situation.

Happy to say that after 10 years of swinging we have never had any bad news from the clinic.

I had someone ask for a certificate once, so why is it difficult to get one?.

"chams runs a sexual health clinic once a month which I think is a very good idea."

i go to the one run at chams, its a drop in you dont need to call and book, its every 4 weeks and free, i only live about a mile away so seems daft to go anywhere else, i go pretty much every months but sometimes miss one due to school holds etc, i dont think you need to go as regular as every 4 weeks but i go every month i can get just because its so close

south staffs

Some people have lived a sheltered life. It is always best to ask if you are not sure. There is also google for questions and education . . .

I hear this all the time " I/we only ever play safe " . . . by which they mean that they put a condom on for penetration only and hope to luck about the oral. Reading the WHO guidelines for correct use of condoms, they specify that the condom should be put on before ANY sexual contact occurs.

Most people don't do this, as sucking a condom, or licking a piece of cling film doesn't appeal much, which is why REGULAR GUM check-ups are vital.

I try to get checked out between new partners if possible, but on average every 4-8 weeks. If one is actively swinging I cannot believe that 6-monthly is enough !

I have regular blood tests and check ups for work but as im fairly new to swinging am going to pluck up courage and go to the GUM clinic and get a check up there every 6 months. I cant go to my local clinic though because I know all the staff lol, but even though we dont do bareback - in actual fact we have only soft swung up to now, but there is a risk albeit much smaller, via oral sex so its best to get a check up for peace of mind.

According to my gynecologist (with over 20 years experience)a six monthly check is sufficient

And yes he is aware that we swing regularly and have new meets regularly also

There are certain conditions that will only appear in blood tests or other tests after a certain amount of time

IE up to and sometimes over 3 to 4 months
