Just be realistic. If you charge people then don't try to make a profit or spend silly money on arrangements. I was recently asked for thirty quid to attend a party and when I said was a bit expensive they told me the venue was costing them £700 (was only a two bed apartment). Parties in people's own homes with invited known guests are always better, more fun and less of a headache

Did anyone say party?? Too far for me too always invite more people or just trusted friends as not everyone turns up when they say they will... Also give yourself enough time to ' get to know ' the guests.. And them to know each other... The better you know them the more chance there is they will turn up.. Read a thread today of a party that had been organised and only one person turned up out of 30 that had confirmed they were going

I was offering some friendly advice, no need to be so aggressive, I wasn't being negative just having held parties and attended them I have seen some of the reasons why they fail

OP I haven't seen anyone being negative, just offering some sound advice.

If you do hold a party invite more people than you want, allows for drop out numbers, if your holding it in your own home then maybe only invite those that you have met previously.

It's not negative to suggest that there maybe costs involved and therefore asking people to pitch in. Some friends and I were discussing a party a while back and decided that we would prefer to pitch in and rent a house for the weekend for us all than have it at someone's house. We were all going to contribute to the venue, hire a dj, get some food in etc.
