"No never been on chix, I shall start looking online for more advice but thankyou for the wonderful reply its very helpful, I have quite a dark complexion due to being half italian and ye I do get the 5 o'clock shadow" Oh and pick your shop assistant carefully! Choose one who's not too young (more life experience, less chance of giggles) and who's make up you like. Get her to talk you through a full routine and the order to apply it. Some of the steps can be cut out but it's useful to get the full tutorial. A good sales assistant won't push anything but will make good recommendations. A good set of brushes is useful too, the applicators that come with make up are not the best and usually so small that they're fiddly to use. Boots do a good set by eco tools. They have long handles which make them easier to use. Get a make up.pencil sharpener too - a normal one hasn't got a good enough blade to sharpen soft make up pencils.

"Everyone has missed the most important base for make-up. I can not stress enough the use of a primer. It smooths out fine lines and pores and is so soft and silky it gives the perfect canvas fir application. I've tried many and for me it is baby skin by maybelline."

"youtube has loads of makeup tutorials. the secret to good makeup is practice, practice, practice " I think this is it in a nutshell. Remember that most women start applying make-up in their teens so we've practised a lot! I would say when starting out, follow the less is more approach. The worst kind of make-up, on anyone, is when it's really overdone, thickly applied and not blended. I think if you can get your foundation right then you're already half the way there and you can then go on to experiment with eye and lip colour

"Pan stick is good for covering that 5oclock shadow." It's too obvious though. You can't help hair growth. The only thing to do is take off your makeup, shave and put it back on

Without seeing his it's difficult to say what to use. A good base is essential but we don't know what is being covered up. Too many layers will age a face
