Health Checks

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I've just searched the forum for 'Sexual health' checks. I'm quite surprised that there are only 3 threads about this.

I decided to embark on this lifestyle about 3 months ago, and had my first sexual health clinic appointment tonight. I was advised to get check every 3 to 6 months and to have a course of hep B vaccines which would make me immune for life. Apparently there has been a major hep B outbreak in Bristol's swinging community.

So I was wondering how often do people get checked and has anyone had the course of vaccines?

Thanks,

Dance x

We get checked every 3 months. Take it in turns to go, as we both play together only. Then once every year we both go together at a random time.

Think very carefully before you decide to have the hep b vaccine. It has damaged a fairly significant number of adults.....life changing damage....and you may not have immunity after a course.....

Definitely have the hep B shots. Hep B is actually harder to treat than HIV and is very infectious.

nobody is going to admit they caught something on here anyway. Except me last year I wrote a thread about it.brought alot of awareness to fab and many testing regular that never did before, so I dont regret it.

I had a scare this year as a fb caught something and told me.which I respect him highly for doing that.the day I were told I was suppose to be going to a party, I cancelled and didnt play till I was treated. Turns out I was all clear anyhow so missed sex for couple weeks for nothing

Your evidence for this?

Like all vaccines offered on the NHS the risk from the vaccine is lower than the risk from contracting the disease it's designed to prevent.

Everyone worries about HIV and rightly so, but that is relatively difficult to catch. No one seems to think about Hep B despite the fact it's much more transmissible and can cause hideous complications such as cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Already mentioned, but my first thought would be to search "GUM clinic" also. I get checked every 3 month and keep the texts of my results (you'll be surprised the nasty rumours people peddle,.. but even more surprised the people that believe the rumours! Good thing my results prove otherwise).

Depends on how active I've been, not being very active at the moment and mainly just seeing my fwb so will wait until I get my depo.

I had the hep B vaccine, 2nd and 3rd jab made me feel a bit fluey but nothing major.

A number of venues including Liquid in Blackpool have a monthly daytime invited GUM session which is free access. More clubs should give access to regular tests in this way in conjunction with their local NHS GUM clinic or centre.

Condoms aren't 100% and they don't prevent you from getting some things... And if you do oral without you need throat swabs too x

I'm always a little surprised that sexually active adults seem to be under informed about the risks they take and how to minimise them.

condoms won't prevent against the 40 types of HPV ( human papillomavirus) or HSV (herpes simplex virus) these can be transmitted by hand, mouth, genitals and anus. Every swinger should get regular checks and demand same of their partners.

Chlamydia can be passed from vaginal fluids as well as semen. And these can be passed on your fingers. Remember that pre-cum can have semen present.

I have also seen what gonorrhea looks like in the throat! It was a woman I worked with (married and vanilla) who had gone on a girl's night out and given a random man a blowjob in a doorway while d*unk. She naively thought she had tonsillitis and since I got that asked me to take a look.

Hep B can be passed in every bodily fluid. So next time you have a hot sweaty session make sure you don't get any of your partners sweat in your eyes or anywhere you may have an abrasion.

Or get the jab. I got the full course years ago when I worked with the homeless, it was a requirement of the job. I've had retests since and a booster and my immunity is good.

I too, checked every three months. Vac' for hep b, reg' bloods for HIV,at the local walk-in clinic.

Should a condom burst, and you are concerned, go to your A&E mention this. They can can give you a course of tabs' this is a first line defence against HIV, its called PEPs, go within 72hrs of intercourse. Oral without a condom, should not be a danger providing a, no one has a viruses to pass on, you have no ulcers or cuts in mouth, do not brush teeth before or straight after oral, as you may cause gum bleeding, hence an infection site.

I personally mix a bottle of mint mouth wash with TCP, it refreshes, a will help to prevent x-over infection, when bj-ing multiple.

It's the poor education of those in the vanilla world that scares me. The most common I've heard....

I've only had 2 or 3 partners I must be clean.

I have no symptoms.

She doesn't look like a slapper so will be clean.

Yes. But at a GU clinic some results are while you wait and others are quicker than through your Doctors. If you go to a family planning clinic it's quicker too.

If you go to your doc's you'll probably need a separate appt with the Nurse to get blood drawn. Most GP practices will advise going to a specialist clinic, unless you live somewhere really remote.

Bristol.

Practice safer sex and you worry much less, it is often when people have un safe sex that clinics/testing come to mind..

Always had annual sexual health mot, except when having unprotected sex, which is rare..

Also had the hepatitis b vaccine plus booster..

Used to go to clinics which i really Dont like, in so many ways..(patronising so called counselling!)

Now i am older i find it easier and more relaxed with my gp ..i realise this goes on yr records &can make a difference with insurance etc. but the whole experience is so much better for me.

At long last a number of self testing kits available including hiv, i think this is the way forward...

We are regularly tested, In fact currently waiting for the results of the most recent test! but hadn't ever heard about the Hep vaccine. I'll ask about that next time I go, or when they contact me with the results. Always better to be in the know and prepared!

I just got checked today. Whether I'm sexually active or not you can still get a bacterial infection if shower gel gets in your bits and it can be transmited to your partner.

It can also be an obsession with the 'worried well'..

Every little sore or rash can hit the sexual guilt button and have people running to the clap clinic ..better safe than sorry, but lets not get hysterical about it...

Take responsibility for yourself, lots of guys want condoms but rely on others to provide...free from family planning clinics etc..

The wife is currently on a course of jabs for HPV vaccine from Boots. It's a few £100 quid but again if it reduces the chances it's money worth spending.

Never thought about Hep B. Think the wife is already covered for that, but not sure about me

I get checked every two months regardless of how active I have been, it only takes one person to pass something on!!...Blackpool does have a fantastic GUM clinic and some results are given there and then, others take a few days...but at end of the day, its for my peace of mind..bugs can still be passed through oral sex....All swingers shud be regularly tested...

The last time I went to the clinic I was shocked at how many people said it was their first time at a clinic. Really? And we aren't just talking young folk - there were older people too. So don't think cos you are in a relationship it's all good. When you fuck someone you are fucking all the people in their past too essentially.

been swinging/meeting online since I was 18. I have never had a vaccine for any std's. I used to get checked every 3 months religiously - now it's more like every 6 months, though that is only as I am not meeting different people.

I think it is the only responsible thing to do if you are sleeping with multiple people. What worries me more is that people don't or have no idea what a gum check up is!

Every three months for us when swinging, we both had the HepB as part of our job but have our levels checked when we get to the clinic.

Our results text is usually around 2 weeks. I keep them along with almost everything else on my phone.

There have been millions of threads upon it, but must be under something else. I like monthly checks and everyone should check should they ever show any symptoms of course. Keep your sex safer and you may never have any problems - thats my hope. Hep B is a good step, and it takes the full course to be followed.

Its scary the number of couples that, fair play to them use protection,.. but then think that eliminates the need to get checked: get checked, do it often, do it regularly! On the massive and unfortunate "IF" then you'd have a small window of time to narrow down how/where/when/who with and how hard.
