Possibly cutting things like wheat and yeast from diet may help. And use a gentle product for cleansing, non perfumed etc maybe femfresh or e45 products.

Never had it but a couple people I know have and thus is some things that could trigger it. X

I've just done a search on Boots and Balance Active is under £8.50 so it's not that expensive.

Right I just googled it, nhs website says that half the people that get it will get it reoccurring and if it happens a lot then get a referral to the gum clinic x

BV is Bacterial Vaginosis a non sexually transmitted bacterial infection that is caused by the bacteria multiplying too quickly. The usual treatment is a course of metronidazole but unfortunately it can come back again and again. Does your friend have the coil? She should only use aqueous cream down below, no soap or substitutes, Sanex being one of he worse offenders. Wear no knickers around the house and in bed, and don't over wash (hard when their is discharge etc). Feel free to PM me xxxx

Make sure she doesn't douche her vagina as it flushes away the good bacteria and lets the other bacteria take over. Don't use soaps etc to wash.

Are her smears up to date etc?

I have found the balance active pessaries work better than the gel. Available at Tesco, but may have to ask pharmacist to order them, depending on the store.

Tell her to use thrush treatment as well because I had bv recently and got thrish twice because of the meds. Havent had it since iv taken the thrush pessery. Good luck dont let it go unmedicaed because I had been in soooo much pain in my abdomin and until I got swabs done (two drs later the first only giving me the strongest pain killers) it came back id had bv and it had gone unmedicated for as long it was affecting my womb/uterus.

Sounds really strange but I know someone who had this problem and uses a very inexpensive solution.

She inserts vitamin c tablets apparently it corrects ph balance of things. She swears is really happy with the results. Good luck.

Recent evidence suggests salt baths can help. Large hand full of salt in a tepid bath. No soap or bath foam should help. X

I know I was quite surprised my self. Supposed to be particularly effective just after a period or sex if they are your trigger points. If any ladies want to pm me on the subject feel free.

For thrush I use a pro biotic capsule. You empty the capsule and insert a tampon coated in the powder. Sounds weird I know but it works

As this is good bacteria wonder If your friend takes them orally and vaginally would it help?

It's pro biotic acidophilus got mine from Holland and Barrett, keep them in the fridge once opened to keep the bacteria good.

She needs the capsule sort that contains the powder

I used to get this really bad too. a really tuned in doc at a local clinic let me in on the reason why it kept happening to me. baths, particularly if you use bath salts or bubble bath, but just sitting in the bath itself for long periods of time can do it. the soap from cleanising yourself and your hair make it worse too because it kills all the good bacteria in there which lets the icky bacteria and thrush grow. if she can, try taking showers more than baths, and don't use soap to clean the bits.....just warm water on a face cloth. and the balance active stuff really does help keep in under control.

Bv is caused by the lowering of ph levels. For most women, after their periods the ph levels go back to normal for some it doesn't which then causes bv. While bv is not sexually transmitted it is as a result of normal sexual biology. Sometimes the ph level of the semen of some men may be slightly more alkaline and this may in itself cause bv in some women.

Has she been checked that a tampax has not been lost?

GP can prescribe the gel. Also, use either alongside or alone with live yogurt inserted with a syringe overnight. Do not use tampax etc.

Alongside ia more effective as its a double whammy.

Also the lube can cause problems to. Silk is the best as its ph neutral and water based.

In fact if a coil is used it should be taken out as to prevent infection being tracked around.

BV dosnt get passed on to men but can be via F/F activity, sharing toys etc.

- And after a number of antibiotic sessions she would do well to actually take the acidophilus capsules for a couple of weeks to rescue her digestive tract too. Antibiotics kill everything, including the beneficial bacteriae in the gut.

Don't use feminine washes at all and replace shower gel with dermol 200 - its a soap free shower emolient. Pop a bit of aqueous down there too. Eases it a bit for me, hope that helps.

I found not using latex condoms has worked for me

The taking of thrush treatment isn't recommended, can make the situation worse. I was self treating continuously till I went to the gum clinic

Other tips I got which have helped

No baths , shower and no soap products used around the virginal area

Wash underwear in a 60oC wash. Lower temps do not kill bacteria. Change to white cotton undies for every day use. Keep the skimpies for special occasions

And check the soap powder used. I can only use one brand

GUM - genital - urinary medicine

Where else would you recommend going? A chiropractor ?

Excuse me for predictive text and a ting screen

I replied not to make you look foolish but seriously you don't know what a gum clinic is for ?

Most active people would go there first before their gp , they are specialists. Like going to a dentist rather then a gp with toothache

Five times my gp diagnosed thrush and come the end put me on repeat prescription. Took a trip to the gum clinic to get it sorted once and for all

The GUM people also do all the blood, swab and other STD checks that everyone on here should be attending regularly ... HepB too.

If you are not sure then Google GUM clinic and go visit them.... Often.
