Hiya,

I'm looking for advice on webcamming. Ideally I'd like to know what the best webcam and the best Internet connection is for the ultimate experience.

It would appear that my webcam doesn't give the desired effect so that can easily be changed I've been looking at the Logitech HD cameras?

My Internet is unfortunately provided by my landlord so I can't change it and with about 12 units trying use it I imagine this screws things up for us? But since we're intending to move I'd appreciate the advice for future use.

Thanks

HD in reference to a webcam refers to the resolution it records at, usually 720 pixels. An HD laptop probably refers to the resolution of the screen, although it's probably greater than HD, since that's quite low for a computer screen. The 2 don't really affect each other. You'll also want good lighting as any cam will work better with more light.

Get a booster that looks like a normal electric plug which goes in any socket, it picks up the signal up to about 70 feet away boosting your internet to its original strength.

We got one for our son from svp.com for about £25.

One advice for camming is to realise that cams can be recorded. So don't flash anything you wouldn't want on an amateur porn site.

Lighting, led video lights £23 on amazon are a good investment and don't get hot. Learn how to change cam brightness and colour settings.

Internet fast upload speed anything over 3Meg will look very good. So a fibre optic one like Infinity, virgin Media will be hit and miss speed wise.

I've noticed when watchng cams that fixed focus cams keep image in focus when people are moving. Auto-focus cams may have sharper images but too much movement can cause blurring as the cam refocuses.

Most webcams are suitable for online, i use Logitech myself with no problems. You don't need super high resolution unless you want to record. Streaming online is usually low res.

More important than the cam itself is lighting and angles. Just try different cam positions (in relation to you but also your light sources). Also try moving lights/lamps around.

I would recommend getting a cheap camera tripod. Anything that you can unjust the height and angle, it makes things way easier. I just fix the webcam to the top with an elastic band, and it all folds away into a tidy bag when not in use.
