Hi Everyone,

Did a quick search of the forums and noticed that we have a few diabetics amongst us (I am type 1 - insulin controlled) . The question I have is has anyone had a meet where their blood sugars dropped and caused a hypo and how this was managed with the opposite number....?

Also interested to know if this is something you mention before meets or just hope for the best.

I am type 2 but usually still mention it before a play meet in case something happens. Take something with me in case my sugar levels drop too just in case

Am type 1 so insulin controlled and anyone I meet is aware and I do keep biscuits to hand just in case x

He he he............ a must for any of my play meets is that they supply the coffee and chocolate biscuits!

I always inform a new meet, it's unlikely anything would happen as I'm a regular level checker but would hate anyone to think I'd swooned at their talents and stamina and sit there thinking "wow I must have been good"

Sorry to but in but fairly new to the diabetic world type 2 here and have had the Metaformin tablets with not much success and have recently been changed to the slow release which are making me nauseous back to my nurse on Monday and just wondered what peoples views were of the medication.

Type 1 here as well , as long as you control it then you should have no problem , but always carry some sweets with you just in case , if you do feel your levels are getting low , then pop one on your mouth and suck on it , !THE SWEET I MEAN YOU DIRTY MINDED LOT

I take Metformin and to be honest have never had any problems however I do take my full daily dose in one go on a morning and keep getting told off as supposedly it's meant to be taken before or with food (that's just the way I've always done it and can't be bothered changing now!) so if you're taking it on an empty tummy it might explain the sicky feelings

my daughter has been insulin diabetic for many years now she a mum of two and it has never stopped her personal life with her husband. All insulin dependant diabetics know to take their glucagon injections and extra googies wherever they go hve fun

I'm a type 2 diabetic and actually had a hypo on a meet. Have to say the guy was real good about it. Can't say I am surprised the way we went at it mind... Was a fantastic afternoon, and soon recovered after a good rest and my meds!

I carry something sweet & my e pen but its not something i tell people in advance

Being type 2 I have discovered and use a great once a week injection called Bydureon, which is a trade name for exenatide, it is great for losing weight, as opposed to gliclizide and metformin, which store fat, and no side effects like ankles swelling, It is expensive so lots of drs don't tell you about it, but if you ask your diabeties nurse, she can recommend it, fantastic, once a week treatment, and no nasty side effects.

Type 1 here (male). I use Novorapid with meals and Levemir as a background insulin. I have fairly good control, but my levels have dropped on a couple of occasions during sex. Thankfully only with my OH. I always keep a sugary drink and sweets next to the bed and chocolate bars in my coat pockets just in case. I find it good practice to inform others of my condition as a hypo can lead to quite drastic changes in demenour.

I get the right munchies during/just after a hypo though. Anyone else the same ?

My son gets munchies too after hypo, he's starving, but on a pump so easy just press buttons, .
