Help! Piercing migrating

Jump to newest

I had my belly button pierced about three months ago and at work I bend over a lot. This has been pushing on the lower ball.

I noticed it had stared to migrate a couple of days ago so I have swapped the bar for one of these flexible pregnacy ones so it isn't being pushed now.

Will it heal again or is the piercing now doomed?

There is still lots of skin between the two holes.

I would go and have it checked by the person who did the piercing originally. Unfortunately, belly piercings are prone to growing out.

If it is growing out, your piercer may offer to make a deeper piercing, change the bar if it keeps getting caught when you bend over or reassure you it's ok.

Here and there

Every piercing I've ever had has grown out. I did get re-pierced a few times but eventually just gave up on them.

Go back to the person who did the piercing and ask for advice.

Unfortunately I had it pierced on a whim when I was visiting London so I can't go back to see the origional piercer.

I'll pop in to see someone nearer and see wht they have to say.

Thanks folks.

Hello Tenderlovers,

I had my frenum pierced and that migrated. I went to a different piercer to get it redone and I explained what had happened. His advice was that the original piercing was too thin (1.6mm, a standard initial piercing size), he said it will act like a cheese wire. Once healed I stretched the piercing and used a 2.4mm ring and later went to 3.2mm. I've had it now for many years with no further problem.

Never just take a piercing out. Have it checked first as if there is any infection in there, allowing the piercing to start healing around the infection could cause an abscess.

if its already started migrating, it will never go back to where it originally started but let someone inspect it first to work out why it hasn't worked out for you do if you decide to have it redone, they can try to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Most times, it's because the piercing didn't go deep enough.

Sigh; I reluctantly give in I've wanted my belly pierced for years and now it's not worked. Makes me sad.

I really think it's because of my job that it's ended up starting to migrate. Can't afford to change job so I guess I'll just have to accept I can't have a belly piercing.

I agree with the posts above.. I've had lots of piercings over the years and got rid of them all now..

I would take it out.. That way.. The hole will heal but it will be tougher skin.. Then go back much later and have it pierced again.. But behind the original piercing.. That way with the tough skin before it won't grow through again.. That's what I found with mine.. Hope this helps..

would it not be possible to have the piercing in the top of your belly button, instead of the bottom?

would give you a little more room between your waistband and the jewellery, and its a bit different

Drop in to see a reputable piercer for advice and get it looked at. It may be resolved with a change of jewelery.

Well I took it out. Having looked closely I felt it was pretty doomed so bit the bullet and removed it. I'm now feeling really low without it. Is that normal? Only had it just under three months.

Tender lovers wash it with saline just to make sure its clean, I know how low you can get I had both my nipples pierced until the 9th month of pregnancy and had to take them out due to breastfeeding and I cried cause I knew it'd mlbe months before I could get any done, I had microdermals on my stomach and 2 out of 4 pulled out with general day to day activities do yeah its normal to feel down about something you wanted for years.

I'm continuing with the salt water cleaning routine. I did try changing for an open ring because it was swollen and the balls seemed too close to allow air to the holes. Once i realised it had started to migrate I could see it was never going to look right because it had changed position. It's been out since last night so I imagine there's nothing more I can do with it til it's healed again. My wife is sad that's it's gone too. We both loved it.

Sorry. Meant to reply regarding your post. It was in the top. They usually are. Like I've said tho- Perhaps my job makes it unsuitable. It's very physical with lots of bending and stretching.

I had my navel pierced 10wks ago. No issues so far but now I will watch for it.

Wondering if having the top of the navel pierced would prevent this problem?

How hard is it to change the piercing? Scared to change mine for a few more months.
