"Thank you for the comments, I think I'm tending towards the leather harnesses or backplate type suspended from 4 ceiling mounts although I may well use Dynema rope rather than chains as I keep some of that around for hammock camping and know how to splice whoppie slings which should make height adjustments easy. Unfortunately it is all a little academical at the moment though, until I fully recover from my fractured shoulder." Eek! Ours is leather, 4 point type- full body support and very comfy. Only went with chain as more adjustable for us (playroom roof not straight) and greater strength under tension with less risk of fraying (oh and we can chain/ handcuff ourselves and each other to the supporting chains too!)

"Whoopie slings are a type of loop made in hollow core ropes, where a section of rope is passed back through the middle of the rope. As long as the overlapping section is the right length then the loop becomes almost infinitely adjustable and locks when placed under load. Dynema rope is incredibly strong, the 1.5mm cord has a minimum breaking strength of 3kN (300kg). For this type of installation I would probably use 3mm cord though to allow for the loss of strenght associated with splicing the rope. All high modulus polymer ropes though lose massive amounts of strenght, upto 70%, when knotted so allowing a lot of safety margin is a good idea when working with them." Now you're just showing off would much rather something softer and less noisy than chain but we got a damn good price on it and its easy to change shackles etc- and it gives a good luck to our playroom lol

"We've only tried one once but we were a bit pissed and Debs kept falling out. Once we started laughing things just went from bad to worse " They do take a bit of practice to find the best height and strap position... but that's have the fun... My problem is that nobody will push me when I am in it!!

"We have used one that was almost Hammock suspended by chains in a big old frame. You also secured her legs into leather cuffs on the chain. Was a bit of a pain getting the height right but was very good fun apart from the creaking of the frame and chains rattling. . " this is the type a friend has set up permanently best of the bunch tbh

"I put one in a few Yeats ago. First you need to think on who is using it. I personally think over engineering is best to avoid disaster. I went to ironmongers and got a pair of joist hangers and installed them between 2 joists with 4x2 in between and thread bar through the middle. Leave enough thread to screw an eye bolt on. Once re-plastered, get an old smoke detector to cover the thread bar." What a great idea with the smoke detector
