Yes and if you change the age range of those you wish to meet to 99, you wont appear on any searches either

That's good advice, because I hid mine for a few weeks whilst I was too busy but didn't do this and still got winks, friends requests and messages!

Don't forget to put all your pics on private too, if you don't they can still be viewed on a hidden profile.
