Sorry if this sounds naive, but I have no idea what these are, what they do, where to get them and are they legal?

And most important are there any health professionals here who can tell us if there are any associated dangers or risks?

The chemical (amyl nitrite or similar) acts on the smooth muscles in the body. Which means you have a relaxed sphincter (anus) and a drop in blood pressure. Leading to the head rush. They also cross the blood brain barrier to have an effect on the brain having an aphrodisiac effect.

Due to the drop in blood pressure do not mix with medication that also lowers the blood pressure such as heart medications or viagra

Amyl or alkyl nitrates are organic solvents. Therefore sniffing poppers is solvent abuse, no better for you than sniffing glue like a dirty little chav down by the canal.

That said, the head rush can be fun. Just don't over do it.

The best thing to do Is get an small empty pop bottle and half fill it with cotton wool then pour a little in. Cos it soaks into the cotton wool you still get the same effect with out the chance of spilling them and won't get any burns as your not going to get it on your skin.

The poppers you buy in the UK nowadays are crap. You have to get them online from Thailand or Canada.
