"My sibling died of alcoholism. Many times they covered up that they'd had a drink, but it was obvious. It made them a liar and a thief to get drink. It depends if they want to stop, only they can do it, but they have to realise it's an issue op. Hope you're ok. " It's awful isn't it. The can at 8 am with two thirds vodka one third was my relatives 'secret'.

My sibling had a water bottle, full of vodka. That came to light on a hot day when someone else picked it up for a drink & realised what it was.

Cola can was what I meant. Yeah. I cottoned on way before anyone else and nobody believed me, then when they did they conspired to keep it secret. I don't know if having things out in the open would have helped but it would have explained the stealing and lying.

When we twigged and tried to talk to them, they made out we were the bad ones and were picking on them. It's just such an awful addiction for the person and their families too. My sibling and I used to be so close, but we were like strangers by the end.

"^^ I think defensiveness and secrecy are big signs. I felt sorry for their children, to have a parent who chooses drink over you affects your life for ever. " . Totally agree. Thank goodness that my sibling didn't have children.

"they are seeing that the writing is on the wall and they need to leave its not a secret as they have been found out numerous times issue is nothing seems to stop them and the self destructive nature of this disease is kicking in." I hope you're ok. I think you're doing the right thing asking them to go. If they won't get help or change, you'll get caught up in it all and it's so unpleasant watching someone you care about self destructing. Only they can do what needs to be done unfortunately. Good luck with it all.

"they are seeing that the writing is on the wall and they need to leave its not a secret as they have been found out numerous times issue is nothing seems to stop them and the self destructive nature of this disease is kicking in." That can sometimes be the catalyst that gets them to seek help but I don't want to give false hope. I hope you or your friend can find support
