Loneliness over 50

The Shire

Slowly I have noticed that my close friend group has been shrinking over the last 10 years and it is now nonexistent. I am 53 with no one to call me on a Tuesday to go for a coffee. Everything seems to be on social media to me.

Does anyone else have this in their life. The phone stops ringing?

Is it that I am simply a bore?

"Im in same boat

I know lots of people who come into my work and I get on well with, always get told we will arrange something but it never happens.

Newtown / Oswestry

One tip.

I used to say to friends “we must grab a coffee sometime” or something similar and like others have said that time would never happen.

I now make the arrangement there and then and it’s made a big difference as you actually go out.

Everyone is just so busy that unless you make the arrangement it’s just not happening.

Ankh-Morpork

Men’s shed

Walking groups

Bowls

Andy’s man club if you need some mental health support too

Fix it groups

These are the things my dad took part in and still does after mum died.

He helps out at a monthly fix it group where folks bring in things like broken toys, or electrical items to be fixed. People share their skills.

He plays lawn and crown green bowls every week without fail and skittles in winter.

Have a think about the things you’re always wanted to try and do it

The men’s shed, Andy’s man club and the walking groups were amazing at making new friends and getting real time support too.

Borough of Greenwich

It's the opposite for me, I work on site and have around 10-15 men chatting or messaging during the day, so it's nice to have some free time at evenings or weekends.

Same here - no actual friends, just co-workers and acquaintances really. Been that way for a long time now. I'm an introvert too so you sort of get used to it.

You're not alone in being lonely xx

It happens to many.

I wasn't ready for the school run to stop, the morning chats, the summer barbecue, the autumn fair, the sports, I hadn't realised that so much of my "social" life belonged to the kids.

Now I need to find the courage to join something new.

we found that over 50 are better, more reliable and more fun in swinging scene. Young simply want to release their pent up sexual ebergy but over 50s take time, socialise, turn up when promised, and are real good fun. when we are looking for fun on our trips, we actually prefer over 50s.
