Blocking doesn't necessarily indicate that it's a scam.

We keep a separate payg phone for fab. Its really easy then to just get a new SIM

All depends how quickly you sent someone your phone number. If it was first/second message, without establishing connection, I'm not surprised you got blocked. As not many people like to take conversations off here.

It's a somewhat different story if they requested your phone number and then blocked you, but even then I probably wouldn't go as far as thinking "scam". Might be some nuisance calls or texts, potentially.

Possibly that they put your number into their phone

Then WhatsApp will tell them what you have your name set as

Then they look you up on Facebook

And realised you have friends in common and that put them off.

Has happened to us a couple of times.

Another reason to keep a separate phone !

Do you use your full name on your WhatsApp profile? I don’t think i’ve ever seen anyone use their surname on it. It’s probably not a good idea generally to have your surname on your WhatsApp profile. Giving someone just your number isn’t really that dangerous in terms of identity theft etc but if you have your full name on your WhatsApp profile it makes it pretty risky.

Did they ask then block you?

If they asked and then blocked you, I’m unsure, but it’s rare either one of us gives our number out.
