Probably the wrong place to ask .my friend has a serious addiction and severe depression, but I have had to try and get him some help and advice

I'd advise getting them to go see their gp first, to get help with their depression.

Often addictions can be due to undiagnosed mental health issues.

Their gp should be able to sign post them for further help with their addiction too.

As above they need to get help themselves from their GP.

Are they actually asking for or wanting to seek help?

Although you can book an appointment for them you can't make them go. They need to be ready to get help and if they are not there is not a lot you can do.

it depends on what caused the depression and if you already know about it.

if you ask them if they are ok then they will more than likely say that they are ok. it's how you deal with that lie that will make the difference.
