Targeted by Another Fabber?

Has anybody else been targeted by a grifter?

I’ve been using this site on and off for about 16 years. I’ve met some great guys and some horrendous ones where I have literally walked out on the social. But this time time it was different, I truly believe that I was targeted as a mark.

We met for a coffee after chatting for a couple of days. I never play on the first meet and make that very clear and always meet in a public place. So we chat, meet for a coffee and the connection was there so we carried on chatting and were due to meet on Saturday to have some fun. The conversation flowed freely and everything seemed great. We exchanged stories about our lives as we got on really well. He made some claims that I really did wonder if they were true, one being that he’d purchased a house outright (he’s 30) for nearly 400k but the back story of his life just didn’t fit. He said he was basically gutting the house and redoing the majority of the work himself, he was six months into the work and it would take 6-9 more months to complete. As soon as I asked to see his house, he ghosted me.

I can’t help but feel like this was a BS story and I was a target. Yes, I’m probably being paranoid but something in my gut just feels off. I’m really pleased I didn’t give him too much personal information.

What made you feel like he was targeting you specifically?

About 3 feet away from the fence

Trust your instincts.

The house was such a central tenet of his backstory and yet when he asked to see it, he ghosted. That should tell you enough.

He might not have been "targeting" you specifically, but might be just a general BS merchant who gets his kicks from making people think he's something he's not, and then bolts at the first sign he's going to be exposed.

Either way, trust what your gut says.

Narcissist. You called him out on his BS and his weird reality was threatened.

Dodged a bullet x

Yes we’ve been targeted by another fabber but not trying to scam us but more trying to out us but it’s seriously back fired on them.

How do you mean targetted, as in in he was looking to pull some sort of scam?.

He sounds like he just bigs himself up and then can't back anything up, so stops contact with people who may actually want to see his successes.

These sorts of claims are often used as a reason as to why someone can't accomodate, much like the 'I live in a shared house/with family/have a giant killer dog that will eat you' ones.

Sometimes they're true of course, but sometimes it's to hide the fact they're not single and there's a partner at home, hence the inability to accomodate.

Likewise many will tell tales of amazing jobs, travelling the world to exotic places and of raucous experiences in swinging that never happened, because they think that's what people want to hear and that it'll boost their chances of sex.

I doubt there was any specific 'targetting'. Just a case of tall tales to impress that couldn't be backed up.

Chalk it up to experience and move on. Oh.....and block of course. 😉
