I don't mind hi how are you, it's a good way to start a conversation and can go in any direction. However I wouldn't reply to this kind of message if their profile was blank.

A message, not a couple of words or a single word like Hey, Hi.

We always respond to messages, not one liners.

One liners to us looks like a trawl, hundreds of Hi messages sent to random couples hoping someone will bite.
