Depends on the butt plug material..

If its a silicon based toy - water based anal lube - thicker longer lasting.

If its anything else - combination lubes (water/silicon) work like eg liquid silk.

Glass and metal toys can take oil based lubricants.

For the funnies, I was thinking more Doc Johnson anal glide which is an oil based lubricant for anal play and anal fisting.
