Just a note asking you all to be careful with your pics. I had a whole bunch of them in my public gallery, but some twat nicked them and used them for his ad on Craigslist, even though I have the violation warning on my profile. Luckily I have the sense not to include my face. Pics on Craigslist can be seen by the public. be careful guys n gals xx

So as you have the completely useless warning on your profile, does that mean you are now going to take him to court?

Please Google the laws of copyright. That silly disclaimer everyone puts on their profile has no legal validity whatsoever! Even if it did, a copyright prosecution has to be pursued privately by the copyright owner, so first you would need a private investigator to identify the real name and address of the "thief", then you would need a barrister to prosecute. Having spent the couple of hundred thousand pounds to get that far, you would have to pray that the sad little so and so, sitting in his bedroom, that stole the photos, lives long enough to pay you back at one pound a week!

And THAT is if the offender is in this country!

"bottom line is if you put pics on the internet they're not yours anymore"

Good advice, anything you send out should be something that you are happy for anyone to see. If someone asks for a face pic in a private message don't send it unless you are happy for the world to see it.

There is no expectation of privacy on the internet

I've had mine stolen and added to someone else's profile before. I sent them a message threatening to report them on here and their profile disappeared within 2 mins.

Guess I don't know if they've set up a new one, but suppose that's a risk you take.

What is Craigslist?

And how does that stop the public from viewing them? There are 10's of thousands of members on this site all who can see pictures. No different at all to craigs list other than the 5 minutes that it take to sign up here.

....that is not so sure. All the person need is just to edit the picture, rename it and you will never find it using tineye or google image search. So your picture can still be out there under someone else profile

bottom line is anyone can use someones pictures..same as anyone can have fake profiles!

The warnings are useless because end of day no one could keep up with it..as peeps online collect pics alot and some use them also when not theres.

Is chance we all take and those that do use other peoples pics are just sad anyways..same as fake profiles, prob more fakes online nowadays then actual genuine peeps. lets face it anyone can be anything behind a Pc lol

It does indeed, it'll find crops, edits, conversions to B&W etc.

Can't believe they nicked images from someone who had the warning on their profile though, no respect at all for legal matters !

Simple solution if this has happened is for fab which cares about its site members security and peace of mind is to not allow right click on pics...

If you choose to send other pics privately that's the risk you take...

Don't blame the site!!

There's many a way to copy pics other than 'right click'

A simple screen print will do the same job. The simple rule is - If you're worried - don't show it.

Doesn't matter if you disable right click or not, there are ways around that. For example I can use my phone to take screen shots with a simple swipe of my hand, over rides the right click disable every time.

Unfortunately the warning is useless and pointless. Also, any pics we post on the web, whether here or a social networking site, are vulnerable to being used and it is difficult to do anything about it. That is why my face pics stay private.

Put a watermark of your nickname across every pic.

Not worth nicking then as its to much trouble to remove.

PS. do you need the name of a good barrister to enforce your warning

I think this is when being a internet nerd for many years comes in handy..and a fan of programs easily found for free or to steal..of course to buy

all the above ways of getting pics onto MY computer are obvious to me

If u know anything about things like photoshop, or watermark removal programs u would know its also possible to remove things like tattoos, fences, people from a picture

the only thing people can do to protect their privacy is having no identifiable attributes of their picture such as a face, and other things can be edited out like tattoos or birthmarks etcetc

and finally people actually forget screen recording software can make video from webcams, or indeed have recorded from webcams video posted or streamed onto sites/ used in camrooms.. (remember that hot as fuck girl who doesnt appear to be typing or responding as well as she should?????lol)

this is stuff thats been going on since the first days of webcams and we were all still using dialup ffs

While it is easy to remove things from pictures a heavily watermark picture will take time and skill to return it to pristine condition. I think most people who are stealing pictures won't want to spend that time when there are easier pickings available. So a strategically placed watermark can be a good way to go.

Ok I am afraid the guys are right here, windows comes with a programme called "snip it", have gold membership, view pic as large as it goes, snip the picture just above the profile name, job done.

The only protection is not to have pics, except for friends and only then, trusted friends

Once you post pics to the internet, they are there forever. FOREVER. Nothing, abdolutelh nothing will change this. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive or deluding themselves. If it appears on your screen it can be grabbed.

Some programs will reverse-search the origin of the photo. Without adequate firewalls (most phones won't have them) they can search your hard-drive. Why do you think there are so many naked/erect bathroom mirror shots on the web? Do you think each one was deliberately uploaded??
