We don't have our names on our profile, and not interested in single guys so don't accept messages from them, all was fine we had face pictures on our profile, then the missus received a message on Facebook from a bloke from miles away saying he'd seen her on fab! It's really freaked her out and upset her, we've had to make all our pictures private and considering coming off here, has this happened to anyone else? Would you stick around or leave?

It would freak me out no end, its why I don't have face pics on public tbh I don't want to be recognised. He was probably scrolling through facebook and recognised her face pic from here, it is a weird thing to do getting in contact though. Hope she is feeling a bit better about it now, I would be shaken up too. I don't know if I'd leave but I would do what you already have and make all face pics private, and just do what you think is best for both of you.

If you post face pictures on the internet then things like this are going to happen. There are face recognition tools available online that people can use to find your profiles on other sites by uploading a face picture from here. You should probably consider making your Facebook profiles private if you haven’t already done so.

I don’t think it’s a major drama though is it? What is it that you’re worried about this man doing?

Well at least you’ve removed all your pictures off your profile here to make sure you’re safe. If your partner has been sent a Facebook message from someone who recognises her off here then the last thing you’d want to do is have a picture of her tits or something like that on your profile for him to access.

Yeah I got noticed from fab and had a message on a fella on Facebook it's terrifying when it actually happens to you he tried offering me stuff for a meet even went so far as to offering me 100 quid for him to bend me over now I'm bi sexual and fully embrace it but when someone offers me cash for it I start to Rethink about what I post and which kinda of pics I upload the guy even went so far as to try and force me to meet him saying he will show my family my fab profile and pics if I didn't meet him unbeknownst to him I'm completely open about my fab life with my family at the end of it all I got the police involved because it carried over to him stalking me for 2 weeks

I've had similar, was chatting to a bloke for a while,id seen a face pic. Weirdly enough we had 2 FB mutuals and he commented on a friends post.

Turned out he was married and hiding it. I blocked him on FB and messaged him on here to say his secret was out and I didn't want to hear from him again, then blocked him on fab too.

It really is a small world

I'm sorry you had this op, some people can't be discreet, that's why if never have public face pics up.

Don't leave because of him, then he's won.

You've tightened up your profile, maybe change your location slightly or hide your profile for a while if that's easier, till it dies down.

You can find people by searching their cellphone numbers on Facebook. You can also find them using reverse image searches. Information in your profile, even vague can be used as well. Such as the name of your town.

Go to your privacy settings and the section that says 'show profile to non registered users'.

If there's a red cross it's disabled if there's a green tick you need to disable it

That's why we always put a heart or lips on to our fab pics as they can be searched for . The heart/lips just make it 10 times as hard for em to reverse search .. let's, say your fab pics are the same ones as on your facebook page . Gotta be careful on here , some good folk but some very creepy sad fuckers ..

Did you put face pictures on your profile? It doesn't need to be the same picture because reverse image searching is now obsolete. There are face recognition searches that can search and find any pictures of you that may be online from just 1 face picture.

Facebook suspended me many years ago … as I was accused of having a fake ID … funny old thing!

Never went back … never missed it! I’m only listed on 2 sites, and don’t do SM at all .., again, what you have never had, you never miss!

Still had a few issues due to proximity,tattoos other obvious features we also lived in a small village. Now we've gone a complete 180% and all our public pics are pretty pg with our faces. Can see your point but what we think about is if and when our kids find out and now or grandkids , we wouldn't want to embarras em at all .. imagine all parents talking n looking over .. oor little Joe's mum n dad are swingers .. especially in the tiny village we live in .. no not for us thanks.

Similar thing happened with me today.

I was having a chat with somebody a few months ago and we seemed to of gotten along OK to start off with.. I then got a bad feeling as he begun getting quite pushy and spamming me with messages so I of course blocked.

I then get a message on a different platform from the same person so I blocked again..

2 or so months later I then get a Facebook add from that person as they have somehow found my real name. I blocked immediately but it has left me feeling quite uneasy...Need someone to talk to tbh

I work in cyber security and its very easy to "hack" someone. If you can get even part of a picture , email address, phone number etc there are many free tools that are downloadable that can pin point your location. Most personal details are in the public domain from local council websites. With the right tools and a lot of patience you can find a lot about someone! But you can only go so far before you cross the line between curiosity and harassment. Would suggest keeping screenshots and records and reporting them to the police. Just because you are on a swinging site doesn't affect your right to protection and your concerns must be taken seriously.

Same here too…only when I had got rid of it and looked back on the crap I used to post, ‘liking’ other people’s posts just for the sake of it and the general toxic nature of the site, glad it’s gone now

You're sort of both right.

If you look at this from the Police's perspective, this guy has contacted the OP exactly once, and has done nothing else. He probably just thinks he's being clever in finding a way round the single guy filter, and you will be so impressed that you'll invite him round immediately. It will probably go no further.

But from the OP's point of view this guy is obviously a risk, because he's disregarded the clear preference of the OP. There's also a risk that this is some sort of power kick, and he's doing it to other people.

I'd suggest you report it to the Admins even if you only know his Facebook name. If this guy has a pattern of behaviour then the Police would probably be interested.

Did he really recognise you or was he pushing his luck as we've had people claiming to be ex work colleagues when they weren't and people who say they've seen us on Facebook when we don't have Facebook accounts. One of the work colleague messages was a cut and paste as we received it 3 times so it was just a way to get a response.

This is really great advice!

I am currently dealing with a stalker, he is awaiting his court date! I thought I only gave vague info to him. But he managed to find my place of work, and spent 6hrs driving around my home town til he found my vehicle and where I lived (I met him once and 3hrs away from my home)

If someone is determined enough, and sick enough to put in the effort, then they can find you.

I have come off all social media now. And as others have said I don't miss fb in the least.

Sadly the only real way to protect myself is to give totally false information.

However I will add, this has only been an issue since being single. I think when you're in a couple, having a man at home makes a huge difference with these people. (For men being stalked by women, I have no experience, so this is just in relation to my experience)

OP don't let it totally put you off fab. But use it as a close call into what could have been far worse!

I have had a few guys recognise me locally, but not on Facebook. I'm not worried because I aim to be honest with people if they ask (denying just looks daft). If you prefer to keep your lifestyle and real life separate, I understand your concern.

Just because someone recognizes you doesn't mean there are any immediate concerns. There is a huge difference in people's behavior online and offline.

If you are ever threatened, the police are very discreet and responsive.

A friend of mine works at a local sex club, and the police are very clear with patrons who bother girls off-premises.

Just had the male half of a couple we met once send us a friend request on Facebook, really not sure about this as it is a separate life, but after saying that we do have Fab friends who have become real friends over the years but no longer play who are Facebook friends; a few months ago we had the reverse, an old friend of 40 years on Facebook, his lady got in touch on Fab saying “please don’t freak out but I recognised your picture on Fab from Facebook and would love to meet up”, now this would be a subjective issue, but life is short and why the hell not, so we all met, had lots of fun and a fantastic night and are meeting again soon. Life is never easy and your choices can affect everything, it must be difficult for some on here as there are some proper nut jobs out there.

Please tell me where I said that I don’t see what’s wrong with his behaviour? Saying that it’s not a major drama doesn’t mean that I don’t think what he did was wrong. I was trying to put OP’s mind at ease slightly by saying that there’s nothing to worry about too much because there’s nothing the man can really do. Telling someone there’s nothing to worry about when someone does something bad to them isn’t the same as saying there was nothing wrong with the behaviour.

I started off by saying how the man could have found her profile in case she was wondering how it happened, then I gave some advice on how to prevent it happening again and then I tried to ease her worries by saying that there isn’t much the man can do anyway. Struggling to see where you’re seeing the red flags amongst any of that.

We don’t include our names on our profile and any face pics are kept private. Despite that Kat received a couple of messages from two separate guys asking if we were on fab. It transpires one was already a facebook friend and the other a former colleague.

Of course I can see it’s creepy, I didn’t say it wasn’t creepy. What I meant was that one message isn’t a reason to freak out, it doesn’t automatically mean that she’s in any danger. If he continues to send her messages regularly and starts saying things that seem threatening then it becomes a drama but one message saying ‘I’ve seen your profile on fab’, although creepy and not normal behaviour, isn’t something to worry about.

It's something to worry about because someone who does not recognise boundaries and can't regulate his behaviour can cause all sorts of damage on social media.

Yes, you’re right so when he does start causing any damage then it becomes a drama and something to worry about but at the moment he hasn’t caused any damage so there’s nothing to worry about and it’s not a drama yet.

Unless you think that worrying about something that might or might not happen is a worthwhile thing to do?

We had this happen we told swooped face pictures with a couple and names i the female have a very unusual name next thing i got a friend request from a guy we just deleted it and blocked the couple

Surely the fact he thought it OK to take things from Fab and onto personal social media that would be used for personal friends and family is something to worry about. But if you don't think it is then that's your opinion.

I don't think you need to leave but maybe check your privacy settings on Facebook and make sure you've got the 'don't appear in internet searches' enabled on here. Also block the guy on Facebook.

It is unsettling when something like this happens though.

Sorry to jump in..but How do you do that "don't appear on Internet searches" here? How to turn it off I mean x

Never have identifying pictures public on here, for a whole lot of reasons. It's just not a good idea. Even friends only if you have lots of friends on here, are you really in touch with them enough and trust them ??

Make sure you look at your settings in private settings and cross off Google searches etc..
