Group socials

Hi all,

We're hoping to organise a group social in the near future, a mixture of couples and single men/women.

We know this is probably going to be a mammoth task, with lots of no shows etc... what would you all think best...

A group social at our house, (no playing at all, firm rules) play dates can be set for later, we would just want it as a more meet and greet..

Or

A group social in a local pub or function room (obviously no playing goes hand in hand with this)

Also, what would be a good time frame to try and plan this in advance to get maximum numbers etc?

Anybody have any experience with this?

And finally, if anyone's Intrested... it will be in Hereford lol.

Hi op

I'd definitely say at a pub/function room,we wouldn't want to give our address out to randomers on fab or have them at our house.

I agree with above we've been to quite a few socials and definitely think a pub/function room would be much better it also puts the guests at ease too.

When we attended socials it was always in a large pub.

I wouldn't give our address to anyone from here without meeting them many, many times first

I'd be more comfortable with a large pub or function room as this protects every one involved also you wouldn't have the added fear of some random sneaking off to your bedroom and having a nose around that thought terrifies me tbh having invited someone to mine and they sneak off and start going through me undies

Hi op I think the best advice I can give for a first time social is at a public venue so your home location is kept secure until you get to know the people safety is paramount and for the best

Definitely find a pub or function room. I've organised a few in the past, feel free to pm of you want to ask any questions.

Nr Cardiff or at Chams Darlaston

The socials we’ve been to recently. It’s been in a pub or a function room. Need to give plenty of notice so people can get organised. They’ve tended to have a limit on single men numbers as otherwise it ends up disproportionately being more men than couples or single ladies. Send messages out just before the event with venue details, never make it public.

We've arranged quite a few socials. As others have said a neutral environment is safe for all, and may encourage attendance. Pubs are generally a good shout, then maybe follow that with a club social where play may occur.

All in all, have fun but expect loads of no shows.
