How long is too long for not responding to mail ?

We will start with a confession :

We don't always respond to unsolicited messages, if people don't tick our boxes we don't always reply.

But when we don't get a response from people on our friends list we get annoyed, of course there are genuine reasons, I often open mail and respond when convenient, sometimes days later. But how long is to long ? What is everyones idea of a deadline before removing people for being ignorant ??

Answers on a postcard

Maybe keep an eye on them as they could be on holiday, better to click on their profile over a few days instead though they may at any point not have had time to read and reply.

Where my friends list is concerned, every now and again I remove those I decide I am not going to meet so any messages are by then irrelevant.

Mmm, well if i message someone and they dont reply at all or leave it a couple of days im guessing that receiving a mail from us is a little boring and there not exited enough by us. No one can appeal to everyone after all.

Suppose everyones different on how they go about dealing with fab admin. But i`d say if you can see them logging on and they still have not replied, chances are your not tickling there fancy.

Unless their lucky enough to have a zillion messages in there inbox or there off on hols, who knows, just my guess.!!!

Just to clarify :

We all know when a message has been read, and I know we don't tick everybody's boxes but if we're on there friends list we would assume we were doing something right !

Yes,you would think so wouldnt you!!! I tend to be a very chatty person and often mail friends who we have not said hi to in a while, just to say a quick hi and hope there well. Alot of the time i get nothing back lol.Never mind plenty more filthy folk in the sea.

Honestly...any one would think we have another motive and want to actually shag them or something lol.

Infuriating me thinks !

Frustratingly we had been communicating very well with a couple locally, I let it slip for a week and now we are blocked.

A bit harsh I thought but then I thought maybe we were wrong not to reply sooner so thought I'd get some feedback !

If they block you for not mailing for a week then they probably are a bit uptight. Maybe? Sometimes I lose track if I'm on my phone, might read a mail but think I'll reply later. If someone was bothered I'd think they would mail again.

However when it's the other way round I must admit I get sad if they don't reply within a couple of days lol. I'm a grumpy old bat.

For me, people on my friends list are friends. No matter how infrequently we exchange mails, I would never block them.

We only reply to mails when we are on the site together and that is generally only on Saturday. So if we receive a mail Sunday evening it could be a week before we respond.

However if its obvious we won't meet the sender we'll deal with it straight away or if its a friend enquiring as to our well being whoever opens the mail first will respond accordingly.

Generally I try to reply within a couple of hours. Except when I'm off on my hols. I try and remember to put on current status that I'm on my hols and give a return date. Usually works. Except last year, someone sent me a message then followed up over several days with a string of abusive and threatening messages. When I got back and found them, I sent them one back to say I had just returned in my spaceship from the planet Zooton from getting my circuits upgraded, and if they were quick there was a spare place going back there. Never heard from them since

It depends on whether the message needs a quick response - is we are having a get together at the weekend and wondered if you would like to come ? Or something along those lines - if there is no response for a few days to this and it's been read , that's a bit rude .

If it's just a general' how are you guys' message it doesn't really matter too much .

Different folk have friends for different reasons , it doesn't take long after reading a msg to reply , and if it us a friend - why not be courteous ?

I never get unsolicited messages so that isnt a problem.

If friends dont reply within a day or so and i have seen that they have been online a few times it depends on what the message was, if it was trivial i just forget it, if important i send a reminder (because some of my friends are like me and forget stuff).

If i ever got an unsolicited message i would probably die of shock and then reply at once (from my grave if i have died of shock).

we recieved a nasty message only this w/end then blocked so we couldn't reply after recieving a message from them only 20 hours earlier, the reason we couldn't reply was because we had family round during the day and a meet that night, no rush we thought as the meet arranged was for one week later, we normally leave it for a few days before we deleat

Think it depends on how well you think the conversation is going. We had one couple that we got on really well with exchanging messages then pics then friends request.... more messages..then trying to arrange a meet..then nothing for about 5 days. We made a joke about where they got to and they were off like 'what is your problem' off....ok delete from friends... back to the massive barrel of fish

Good question !

I think sometimes this might be down to inexperience and not necessarily being ignorant, that's probably a whole other conversation to be had.

But I think that if they had the chance they would probably say sorry and hope they could be forgiven

Now, to be honest, that is an extremely valid point. Fairly certain a train of thought such as this would be assured forgiveness. So its all in how you apply the same probability to your current situation

Once I send a message I tend to forget about it as that's all I can do. I find it strange when people message me I reply though and it just sits there unread.

But that's fab for ya I guess.

Some messages either of us could answer. Others are specific some others require a joint answer. It will depend on which category it's in how quickly we reply.

If its a reply or chain on a reply then you don't know if it's been read

Just go into any if the original messages and you can read the latest without setting the read flag

Sounds about right. I delete them out the sent folder as well if they've not been read by then. I think its an ample timeframe.

I am surprised the "How long is too long / soon" question even applies on these types of sites......Surely we can't ponder on the SAME social convention nonsense on Fab and match dot com or the likes, can we???...as soon as it'e read i would say, the sooner the better (24 hrs max)
