When someone winks you, do you normally then message that person if interested or do you just wink back?

If they are close to what we've written we're looking for in our profile, we may wink back to give them the opportunity to expand more

If someone is clearly NOT what we're looking for, we'll usually send a wink then too. This is just to waste their time, like they have with mine. Childish I know, but it keeps be amused!

We message to thank for for the wink and if their profile matches what we are looking for we ask t what interests them about our profile then the answer dictates if we chat further.

They clearly didn't read our profile the first time, and decided on a mass wink spree instead. So we'll return the wink, wait for their message, then go from there. If they are particularly self-obsessed, and their messages clearly indicate they haven't read our profile after a few messages, they'll be led up the garden path for a while.

In all our time on here, very rarely has a wink we’ve received ever turned into anything other than a waste of time. Experience has taught us they’re usually sent by people who are have arsed attitude about actually meeting - it’s a no effort, quick and easy throw away action that has no investment or substance.

We just ignore them now - and on occasions if we notice someone has winked us, we’ll block them, as our profile states we ignore winks and it’s a great indicator that they haven’t even bothered to read our profile.

"When someone winks you, do you normally then message that person if interested or do you just wink back?"

If they match what we are looking for we wink back and message to thank them.

If they aren’t what we are looking for we delete the wink.

It's funny how some people are quick to judge others on winks. I'm sure in some cases the person sending a wink is just randomly sending them. But I think in most cases, like mine, winks are to say hey I've looked at your profile and liked what I see. If I then get a wink back, I immediately follow it up with a message, it's not being lazy to send a wink, it just saves time with countless messages that get send and never get open let alone a reply. So all those people that are quick to judge us winkers spare a thought as to way we wink first

I totally agree with you I only send winks if I'm. within there range of required wants I think it's easier than sending msg but if they respond il always reply also if I get winks (very rare these days lol) I always respond n thank them it's only polite to do so

"I ignore winks"

Why? A wink shows initial interest. If you wink back then you’ve invited them to message you. Winks should be before messaging for all. A wink is like eye contact over a crowded place

Our perspective on Winks - copied from our profile:

WINKS: If we send you a Wink, please do not think we are being lazy. That is not the case. It is what it is - an an indication of interest. If you are interested then please do likewise or message us. It is just that we have learnt from experience that this saves a lot of time on both sides, if the other party is not interested, ie. we haven`t wasted our time writing a message and more importantly, we haven`t wasted your time by you having to read it. If you don`t respond to our Wink, don`t worry and we won`t bother you again.(We make a note in the Private notes section of your profile that we have Winked you - we know - Anoraks.)

If we receive a wink we tend to treat it as an expression of initial interest.

If our interest level is zero, utterly irredeemably low, then we tend to block. It's not personal but ultimately if we are never going to meet someone we use the block as a filter so that we don't waste their time or ours by appearing on each others searches any more and having to appraise the profile repeatedly.

If the interest is moderate, or high but with a factor that may impair our ability to meet them. This may be distance, a particular boundary of theirs that's problematic (but could possibly be accomodated) or only one half is attractive - We will tend to return the wink, see if a chat emerges and play it by ear from there.

If there is high interest and no limiting factors we will usually respond with a message

We even offer guidance in our bio, think of it as a hint.

Single guys, we delete and ignore.

Couples, we look at profile, if we like we wink back, then either of us can message.

We look at the profile. If we like what we see. We wink back and leave it at that.

Usually get a message from them but 99% of conversations end after 3-4 replies. Always the same, hi how are you, what you up to.

You ask the same thing cause wtf are you meant to ask back. They then reply with good or some half arsed shit and the conversation ends there.

Stopped putting effort into people who show 0 interest in having a conversation.

Well if they don't reply to your message I think it means they are not interested. So no point winking.

If we get a wink we will either wink back if the profile works for us we will send a message.

Sometimes, though from the other perspective if you're messaging X amount of people looking for something, you can get burnt out.

A wink is a nice nod - but a lot of people tend to just ... disregard them.

I think a wink here is a bit like someone giving you the eye when you're out and about.

A nice gesture.
