social/ meet whats the difference?

After a conversation in a chatroom earlier a host of a social says a social is were you invite all members from fabs were 50-100 people attend that's her idea of a social,

My idea was if I invited a mixed group for a drink laughter and possibly fun of say 10 people ata house for a social gathering is that classed as a " social " or a "meet"?

To me a social is a gathering of any size that involves people meeting and chatting and not having sex.

for the purposes of the this... if it is at a house for 10 people... then its a house party...

if it is at a neutral venue with that many people then it is a social.....

socials for me are the bigger events....

If we were to have a party at our house, we would call it a social + - meaning that there would be no pressure to play but play rooms would be available - although we would be picky over our guests, making sure that all fitted within general requirements - of course, people would have to actually come!!!

I'd interpret it much the same as Fabio!

Socials tend to be held in pubs, clubs or external venues, rather than a private house.

I've yet to hear of a 'house' gathering that wasn't more of a play event, even if there was no compulsion on anyone's part to get jiggy!! I'd imagine many invited to what is billed as a pure social at someone's house may feel the same and be more comfortable if the numbers were smaller meeting at a pub/bar!

Just an opinion of course!

It wud be at a hotel stroke pub , and yes there wud be no pressure on fun with selected invited guests

Actually I didn't notice the fact that it was in a house, just read the numbers, so yes tend to agree with the others - it's a party if it's in a house.

see.. the key words are still the words "possibly fun" in the sense of playing..

socials for me have always been non-play events in non play enviroments.... no pressure, just getting a feel for people in the scene...

thats why one of my personal "pet hates" if when meets at clubs are called "socials"... not for me

Call it whatever you like - so long as everyone has a good time whether that be having a bit craic and a drink, or whether they slope off and have a quicky, what the hell difference does it make what you call it ?

Everyone is so bogged down with attaching names and labels to everything and everyone nowadays.

I think the term has evolved now, but that was how it was when I first appeared on the scene and I must admit that's also how I tend to view it still. To me q social is in somewhere vanilla but inevitably with afterparties.

not in a house it wud be at aa venue its hypothetical when there was saying i must inite a set number of people and they must be from this sitex

cant see what the problem is here ?? A social event is just that, for people to meet make new friends and old friends, have a laugh and banter.If anything happens after then thats upto the individuals. I have attended quite a few socials in pubs/clubs and enjoyed them all..

To me a social is exactly as it says on the tin - a social where NO play will happen it is just drinks, chat laugh whatever. normally they take place in a pub or venue and many ppl turn up, however they can be held in a house and have fewer ppl. We have often had social meets are our house where we have around 10 ppl or so and no play intended or happens untill ppl go to bed with their normal partners to sleep then yep maybe but it is just a social up to that point.

I think it is just what ppl make of it but to us a formal social is a lot of ppl in a venue or pub other than a house.

For me, the definition of a "social" is:-

~ it's NOT about the venue (can be pub private room, pub bar, swingers club, house, tents in Norfolk - wherever!)

~ it's NOT about the numbers (can be from 2 to 200)

~ it's NOT about the nature of the invite (can be "open to all" or "invite only")

To me, the point of calling an event "a social" is to reinforce the fact that people are invited with no expectation and no pressure that they will play (or get to play). However, if attendees want to make private arrangements for AFTER the social, that's their own private business!

Obviously, in a pub, it's unlikely that the licencee would permit sex acts on the premises! And in a swingers club, the staff should ensure that no-one feels under pressure to play unless they want to. When I've been to socials at private homes, it's only been with a host/hostess who I know and trust to ensure that I won't be pressured to play. And, at the same time, I would never abuse hospitality by playing without 'permission' from the hosts.

Personally, I wouldn't go to a function in a private house, unless I knew the host/hostess very well.

So for me, the distinction between "social" or "party/meet" is not about the venue or the numbers or the nature of the invite, it's more about managing expectations.

A 'social' is no sex expected. A 'meet' has sex involved.

People have socials partly to see if they fancy someone and have the opportunity to politely refuse, without the other side feeling they were cheated out of a shag

Personally for me, there are two types:

1 A social gathering of 50 people in a pub just to get to know one another

2 A social meet between say me and a single male, usually in a pub or coffee bar, to decide if there is a mutual attraction

Some clubs however, like the Lodge in Gloucester, hold a social evening on a Wednesday so anyone can go and see what its like. My understanding of it though from last night, is that without attending this event, one cannot attend on a party night though I am guessing that that ruling is only for single males. I think a club in Wales also has a similar rule

Not all socials are non play just as SEX is not on the cards at every meet

You can play at some socials, and there is no pressure to play at any social or meet!

Depends on the arrangements made, or house rules at clubs!

Back when I first started swinging there was socials and munches. Socials were generally much smaller and in a public place eg pub, restaurant etc. Anyone could attend if they asked. Didn't have to be from the site.

Munches were huge affairs. Held in a venue where only we had access. Site only members no banned members, no friends of friends.

Socials or munches were always strictly non play. And never held in swingers clubs.

Fannys in Swansea has the Single guys must attend a Wednesday night before 'qualifying' for a Saturday ...

Why I don't know - Its either a test of if you can stand the threadbare conditions, or just to get an extra nights huge admission fees off guys. It seems another form of 'test' for single guys ... Why don't all sorts/shapes/sizes/statuses have to 'qualify' ??

well reading threw all this i can see this post as been made to get attention same as it was in the chat rooms as its all been took out of context what we actually was chatting about.

i was talking to a guy about my social coming up he said hes only been to one it was a small social gathering on canal street. he said i only shagged the women i went with no one else.

so i was just saying my social is a none playing social this is a pub not a club, house ect. then i got a remark back saying well carol you wont be happy that we are meeting ***** i did not understand what he was on about and why i would be upset hes meeting a cpl.

so it all went from there trying to explain the difference with social, meeting, parties. i never called anyone any thing in fact i left chat cos i was banging me head against the wall.

the whole point of the conversation was what as it got to do with me who you meet. so if you going to make a thread up about me then at least tell the truth rather than giving people half of a conversation.

The clue is in the word Social , if its a social event its a non playing event , meets on the other had are usually of a sexual nature , house parties can have a play element as well as the social aspect but for fab purposes a social is a non playing event usually held in a pub or the like with no playing in the venue , whether people play after a social is there business and usually planned between said individuals.

To me a social meet is two or more persons meeting in a public area, ie, pub/cafe for brief meet for compatibility. No sex.

A gathering at a house leading to possible sex I would describe as a house party.

A club meet is exactly that.

Ahhh.... Makes sense now...

But it did show clearly how some people think there is a difference between the two words...both mean excactly the same...don't they?

to socialise or meet with another person OR persons!

Any other interpretation is open to personal perception of the hosts or venue's own rules....

It also explains why the forums end up looking like chat rooms rather than forums for discussion of views!

well i wouldn't bring chat room crap to the forum im not that sad, but had to explain the reason for it as it was about me, it was just someone butting into a conversation they did not know what we was talking about.

i think the socials at a hotel/pub venue are just that NO PLAYING ppl meet then maybe hook up after. Meeting at home maybe starts as a small social but usually ends up at play lol
